It made relatively prominent news in July when it was reported that an ANC councillor had won a mayoral vote in Matzikama municipality, ahead of the DA's candidate. This followed shortly after the resignition of DA Mayor Rhenda Stephan after her caucus had lost confidence in her.

I said right away that surely this could not last; DA has a majority on that council. Not that one would get that info from most of the articles, mind you. Only SABC published that little detail.

So now I just found this afrikaans-language article from 6 August. It behind a pay wall, but as far as I can tell it says that the DA has taken back control. At least that is what google translate tells me about this sentence: "Tydens die Raadsvergadering vanoggend is Raadslid Johan vd Hoven verkies tot nuwe Burgemeester". He is also now listed as Executive Mayor on the municipality's website.

My question is: why the complete silence about this from the same english-speaking press that published big stories about the election of the ANC Mayor in July? I cannot find a single article, not even a short notice, about this.

It would seem to be that much of the media prefers to write articles about the DA when they are having problems, but not when they resolve them...

The first question I'd have to ask is how the media normally finds out about these things. Do they have journalists monitoring what is going on in every town?

.
Matzikama seems to have 92% afrikaans speaking population - could be because of language barrier with english people?

First, follow posting guidelines. Second, media may be waiting for press release from the party.

Matzikama? Never heard of them.

My question is, why the complete silence from the DA? They still list Rhenda Stephan as Mayor

The press generally depends on press releases from the relevant parties for things like this. It was only around a week later, if you are correct, that Johan vd Hoven became mayor

Maybe the conspiracy is so deep even some within the DA are involved, not just the media.

Matziwherenow?
Matzikama, close to Tsitsikamma.

It is where Vredendal is. My mom lives there. It is where Namaqua Wines is based.

The Spencer Bay label they produce ... OMG that wine is so good!!!!!! I tasted it @ their Vinyard estate in Vredendal and ended up buying bottles of it to bring back to Joburg (at that stage you could only buy it there). I see now on their website you can buy it online! YAY!!!

Oh ... and well done DA .... now dont fck it up again kay?!

We have Social Media? Why the "need" to have news distribution via traditional media?
