Estimated Telkom ADSL customers remaining: 12,211 (30 September 2023)

Telkom abandoned their infrastructure in our small town and we do not even have very good 3G, so paying R1000 pm to a WiFi provider for a 20Mbs link which becomes unreliable when the weather gets bad.......

When to start worrying about not paying your TV licence

My TV was stolen in 2004, a fact which I reported, including case numbers, etc. Got remarried and have been on my wife's TV licence since. Now they claim I owe then over R8500 for a TV licence. Told them to get lost.

Presidential Climate Commission calls for electricity price reform

Please stop with the "reducing coal power" narrative - just see where Germany and California got with that - their electricity and energy prices went through the roof and they also now have "loadshedding" due to the lack of baseload capacity. Europe is also facing a looming energy crisis due to...

The fate of POTS/PSTN and MPLS in South Africa

Telkom ABANDONED all their copper infrastructure in my town and gave everyone a table-top phone that connects via cellular connection. The only issue is that cellular reception is very bad and there is no fibre. The only internet we have is through very expensive WiFi providers at more than 3...

De Ruyter: Complying with air quality rules could plunge South Africa into stage 15 power cuts

We need more coal and OCGT power stations. Renewables CANNOT meet baseload demand as they are nowhere near reliable enough. We abandoned our Nuclear modular pebble bed reactors which would have been affordable, so Coal and Gas are our only options.

The town where I stay has ONLY 2/3G and no pros[ects of anything better - the signal is too weak for anything more - and there is NO telkom and NO fibre

SABC sends ambiguous threatening SMS to non-paying TV Licence holders

I have also not had my own TV for about 15 years now - TV is in my wife's name and paid up licence. Still get an email at least twice a year trying to get me to pay. Now up to over R8000 already.
