The Workout and Fitness Thread

Back at it tomorrow after a “long” layoff. Planning on a long base ride on the bike (Zwift) tomorrow, then gradually pick up the intensity of the runs and rides over the next weeks, with the intensity of the strength sessions to go up as well overtime.

Only a couple months left of my personal “running season” before it’s time for the Winter bulks.

Let’s keep pushing fellas ;)

On the topic of clothing (kit for gym / running / training)

Brands that have served me well over the years.

Adidas ( General Gym stuff, like shirts, tanks and jackets, Tocks / Rugby Boots )

Asics ( Squash and Running Shoes )

Nike ( Metcon shoes, there is nothing else like it, it's unbelievable, makes you feel like you're bolted to the floor )

Underarmour ( their training pants with the zip pockets, and cold weather running pants, is great quality, also boxerjocks for keeping the boys in place )

What are some of your favourite brands, that have lasted long, or been supremely comfortable under load?

Reebok for gym shoes ('Nike Metcons are a bit too expensive for a cheapie like me :p). Excellent value for the money. Very sturdy and grippy.

Adidas for running shoes. Had quite a few pairs and won't change soon. Currently loving my "oldie" black Boston 8s - what a shoe!

Otherwise, its Maxed all the way for me. Cheap, serves a purpose, and does it well.

I really like Under Armour. Their t shirts just fit my build perfectly and I actually wear them more for everyday t shirts than for workout clothing.

But the price!

Most of my actual gym clothing is Mr Price Maxed stuff clothing. It does the job.

As for running shoes. Asics have been my go to for years.
Have a pair of Under Armour Cross trainers that I use for my weightlifting sessions.

But I long for a pair of Inov-8 shoes.

Not sure what running shoes go for now, but back in my running years (2011~2019) I remember paying eye watering amounts for Nike Air Pegasus and Asics Gel Nimbus. They did serve me very well.

Now that I am older and heavier, I can't punish my knees like that, so I stick to two wheels - on the cheap - yes it can be done.
Not making this up, but my water bottles are ones I picked up (having lost my share too) and they go in the dishwasher after each ride.
My helmet is 10 years old now and whenever it starts to smell funky it goes in the dish washer too.
Shoes are the cheapest I can find at tekkie town since I ride flat pedals.
I have a few cycle shirts I got for free from events and from work.
I use normal cargo shorts and under it some padded cycle underwear.
Shades are just normal cheap protective ones.

Ah yes - look at this fine assortment of bottles that took a dive only to be picked up by me. The latest addition to the team is the green and black one I picked up yesterday on the dirt road just outside Leeuwendans farm.

Those that ever did the CTCT/Argus might remember the kids at the Slangkop/Kommetjie road intersection asking for bottles. I usually "donate" one of these there. Back from whence it came.

Running: Brooks Glycerin
Hiking: I dont do boots I go light so when we travel etc I can have as little as possible - Altra Lone Peak
Gym: I actually use my Altra shoes nice and flat work great. Clothing wise here I go with Woolworths Edition active wear. Mr Price Sport also used from time to time
Tech: Garmin 5s thing works as well as the day I took it out the box years ago. I went with the 5s as its smaller and could fit under work shirt cuffs with no issues. Also paired with silver or black bracelet straps looks pretty decent.

Prince, Adidas or Wilson shoes. I played a ton of squash and I used to get asked alot about what racket I would recommend etc. My advice was, put all your money into the shoes, especially in the beginning, rackets dont make a ton of difference, strings and tension does, but even so, thats for later

Pants: Adidas and Nike are my favourites
Shoes: Vivo barefoot, never wearing anything else again
Shirts: Well I wear just about anything to gym, plain t-shirts that I don't really care about :D

All Adidas. Wasn't even intentional, just realized all of my stuff is Adidas. Shoes, shirts, pants.
All of it lasted a long time. Still have a pair of running shoes from 2014 still in good shape.
Tech: Fitbit Versa 3.

Had a few pairs of Nikes in the past, all fell to pieces, just threw out my last Nike pair the other day.

Clothing: Normally Adidas and been buying a bit more LiftFit stuff recently which is quite nice.

As a said not in a rush to loose weight as I do realise there is a fine balance of building muscle and loosing excess weight with emphasis on not messing with diet so there is another milestone hit first time under 104kg in a LONG time. Wont lie its great to feel more comfortable in clothes again! Also interesting to feel it slightly tighter on certain spots like shoulders biceps etc.

Klapping it two days in a row. Now I'll do nothing until Saturday's 100KM race - which I will treat as a funride since I am still 8KG from my goal weight :sneaky:
Might as well ride it on my old 26er MTB just to get even more strange looks from those seriously focused roadies.
