Hey

i bought optimum Nutrition Creatine Monohydrate. I took a 3g on the first day and then 3g the second day. The problem is my brain refuses to shut off. I developed headaches and some cramps. I did try to sleep but just couldn't get too. Also felt super alert and felt crap the next day. I drank more than 3l and not sure if that was sufficient enough.

To think of the idiotic decision to pay R500 for 93 scoops. i only used two.

I honestly thought creatine had zero side effects but i guess it just depends

Hey yes it is.

Hey

Yes i eat meat. Guess i should just sell this and stick to whey and good foods.

Take it in the morning when you wake up, mix it with your coffee…

I use it frequently, try take it earlier - I gym in the morning, so 5g before with apple juice, 5g in my shake.

I also react to creatine - makes me quite nauseous in the first two weeks, and then mildly after that - also gives me an upset stomach :/

I usually do 3 months on 2 months, purely a personal choice - it gives me serous water retention though - I go up about 6kg in the 3 months.

Creatine stores require water. Maybe you were borderline dehydrated and this pushed you over the edge?

That said, 3g is a small dose and shouldn't cause any issues on the first one or two doses.

Maybe a psychological effect because you were so amped to take it, you were expecting big changes.
Placebo effect type stuff.

Probably but I the first day was not so bad. It hit me hard on the second day

I've been training and taking creatine for 15 years and this is the first I've ever heard of psychological side effects, because there are zero mental or psychological side effects. Stomach issues and the runs yes, very common.

You have no energy because you need to change your diet.

I have no energy after workouts. I will do a good gym session and but the next day I'd have no energy
Alright, so creatine is not going to help with energy the next day. If anything it'll help you blast out 2 or 3 more reps at the end of your set.

So here is my thinking.
You might be sensitive to caffeine, and had a higher than normal dose of caffeine, with the creatine on tip of it.

Creatine and caffeine both dehydrate you in different ways. And your body did its best to try and cope with this.

May I suggest 2 things before you go back to gym.

1. Get your sleep in order. If you're not sleeping well, all that effort in the gym falls by the wayside.

2. Track the food you eat, and specifically how much coffee you drink over the course of a few days, let's say a week.

Once you have these things, you can take a step back and look at what to change, and possibly how to change it for the better.

And if you feel like you need an outlet, just for this week. Go for a walk if possible. Just like 2 / 3km or so.
