Ramaphosa defends decision to appoint electricity minister

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa defended his plans to appoint a minister of electricity in his office and denied that the move will result in a turf war with other members of his cabinet who help oversee energy provision.

Africa’s most industrialized economy has been dogged by rotating blackouts, known locally as load-shedding, since 2008 — a problem the new minister will focus on tackling “day-in and day-out,” Ramaphosa said in reply to a debate on the state-of-the-nation address he delivered last week during which the planned appointment was announced.

We have more than double the ministers of any other country. Why do we need another one? Then get rid of 60% of the already appointed useless ministers and you can have your electricity ministers.

Double the amount of ministers wreaking 4 times the amount of damage!

Squirrel trying real hard to burn as much money to buy votes whilst creating new positions to fill his cadres in to shore up the ANC and try to eliminate the infighting.

This is every ANC voter and members' thinking:
Me 1st
ANC 2nd
South Africa Last

2 million for salary
2 million for car
1 million for travel expenses
1 million for hotel bills
1 million for catering
3 million for support staff

2 million for VIP protection
4 million for their cars

I am sure we will get our monies worth....

Sure. This dude knows what's going on in SA? Highly unlikely. Maybe the new guy will have a special plan for the Super Train?

Leave while you can, if you are able to. Many countries out there will take both skilled, and unskilled South Africans.
Better lives for you and your families, and no need to put up with constant promises where the only given is constant disappointments.

Most industrialized economy but the ANC didn't think to create more capacity when they were told about running out, also why a new minister to focus on it don't you already have ministers that has that in their portfolios?

Or are they too useless as ministers to rely on? Just the typical ANC as usual..

This appointment will ensure that there is a minister who is ultimately responsible for resolving load-shedding and who is able to work with all fellow cabinet ministers, departments and entities to do so.”

Ramaphosa reiterated that he intends to restructure the government to ensure that all state entities fell within the ambit of the appropriate departments.

His comments appear to be in line with a resolution adopted by the governing African National Congress earlier this year that could effectively render the public enterprises department redundant and see Eskom answering to the energy minister.

So is the Minister of Electricity a short term post? Why move Eskom to the Energy minister and create an Electricity minister?

I think we all need to stop using this term " Load Shedding " making it sound like some planned and organized event.
We all need to start calling it what it really is:
ANC Ineptitude or something similar.
" Hey what time is ANC Ineptitude today ? "
" Sorry Mr. customer my store is closed at the moment I cant help you because we are currently experiencing ANC Ineptitude, please come back in 2 hours "
" Honey what's for dinner ? Well nothing at the moment we have ANC Ineptitude from 6 to 8pm "
Etc. Etc.
It must be spoken about all the time in all conversations so that it starts to sink in with the idiots that keep voting the ANC into power.

You expect any ANC voter to understand the word 'ineptitude'?

You have extremely high expectations for an ANC voter...

A minister comes with a ministry which needs staff. Under a ministry is a department for the cadres kids & family members. Mark my words this is a start of a department of electricity. A minister does not actually do the work, not at all, someone has to push the paper & that is a staff compliment - Cyril has just created another billion rand state organ on top of the useless two ministers he already has. I think what we have here is a shell of a man. If there was ever a soul in that shell, its long gone
