Being mocked for having solar.

Last year when the first wave of stage 6 loadshedding ended in July we had solar installed. All my friends and colleagues full of hopium mocked me and said well thats the lowest of the lowest eskom would go and that government will intervene. They all believed that loadshedding will be a thing of the past by December 2022.
I had to endure conversations of how I've just spent 200k on a system, wasted a **** ton of money and the usual mock about solar tax that will be introduced on residential homes with solar.

Most of these people drive vehicles worth in excess of over 750k but will not spend 110k or more on a backup system that ultimately reduces eksdom dependance.
They don't even flinch spending 100k extra on a more expensive vehicle that drinks fuel like my Alcoholic Step brother consumes beer.

Some of these "Mockers" even use my study as a mobile office when the power is out.

Anyone on here that had solar installed last year experience the same ?

Your "friends" are ****.

When some of my friends got solar, the question eventually goes to the topic of breaking even, and usually the break even point is pretty near term, especially considering the 15%+ increases to the electricity price each year. You have to be a dumbass to think that the only benefit of solar is not being affected by load shedding. That's just one of the benefits.

Joke's on them....

Sure, it's a lot of money, but the peace of mind it gives you is invaluable.

Never been mocked. A fair bit of people wishing they could do the same but not in a nasty or envious way. Few people where I live drive cars over 500K. The majority are just struggling to get by on the ever eroding buying power we have. I get the impression people are just struggling to keep head above water these days and just don't have 150K-200K lying around or even available in debt to install something like that.

Anyways. I work in a team of 6 people. I installed solar last year May/June. Two colleagues have installed solar in the last 2 months, and my boss is getting his system this week. Another bought a new place with Solar when she semi-grated to CT. Only one person in my team still does not have solar. I suspect she will follow soon though. Most are adding it to their bonds these days.

Agree on the car comment though. You spend an hour or two a day typically in a car (unless you are a rep). Why drive a million rand car and have no solar when you collectively as a family spend so much more time in your home than in your vehicle? I don't really get why people overspend on vehicles. They all get you from A to B. The rest of the time they are costing you money in insurance, depreciation, fuel, etc.

You have to be dumb to think you can buy yourself out of the ANC`s mess, there is no calculable ROI with new rules and levies and hyperinflation of levies. Fact: Solar users will still pay for Eskom`s mess, more than others, solar ROI will never be reached.

All of us doomsayers, pessimists, defeatists, and preppers, are now the ones that have electricity and water. Because I have a greenhouse / hydroponics, I also have food, I guess we will see whether I was correct again or not.
