Gauteng proposes number plate revamp

More complex numberplates, stricter gun laws, “hijacking hotspot” signage … when is the government going to accept you can’t administrate your way out of the need for law enforcement? Just like you can’t write a law that does actual work on the ground. We need more trained police, better-resourced and professionally managed … full stop. Start there. Stay there until it is sorted. THEN add lipstick onto the pig later.

High-tech number plates in the works for Joburg and Pretoria

The Gauteng Provincial Government wants to revamp the number plate system in the province as part of efforts to combat rampant crime in the region.

During his State of the Province address on Monday, 20 February 2023, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said cars are a common denominator in violent crimes.
How about they fix the potholes and carry out proper maintenance on the existing infrastructure. The plates already cost a Phuck!n arm and a leg. Quit thinking up kak ideas and focus on key issues.

Can you say gravy train. The problem is that corruption options are getting closed so they have to look for something new to raid. It's non stop self enrichment. I can count on one hand the number of people who got orange jump suits after the PPE scandal.

But…but I like the current number plate system :(

If we want to survive financially in future, any new idea that pops up ot of the blueeee, the money flow streams should be declared and plotted before its accepted and implemented, to see if its going to haunt the society financially if implemented.

So first it was hhh 123 zzz gpv(9 digits)

Now it is aa 12 kk gp (6 digits) - no wonder they are running out

Why not make it bbb 123 kak gp (9 digits) - but been used already, so do the next iteration with 12 digits...

Then cccc 1234 fc u k gp (12 digits)

Then ddddd 12345 dicks gp (15 digits)

And so on

You'll never run out of number plates that way.

No new system needed, just a gentle tweak of ANPR and SNIPR.

But they need their preciouses tendas and corruption money...

The problem with hard to copy number plates is that you have to get really really close to them in order to verify whether they are fake or not. You're probably not going to be able to spot them from any sort of distance.
Unless they install some sort of radio broadcast chip into it. That naturally runs on non-replaceable batteries. Lifetime of around 4 months, then you have to replace them. I see no problem with this.

"Cars are a common denominator in violent crimes." I'm sure at one time horses was a common denominator in violent crimes as well. Lucky for them they are no longer the main mode of transport in the ANC Era.
FOR NOW

Also the obligatory "stop wasting taxpayers money on stupid stuff ANC"

He explained that the current system is almost at its end, with it running out of letters and numbers to identify specific vehicles.
We are on "K"??
