The official Mikrotik router thread

Anyone got any tips for me on best UPS for my Mikrotik Router and Router Switch? Am looking at the Gizzu range...
I have a Gizzy. Works like a bomb.

My RB3011 got itself twisted into knots (RoS 6.49 stable) and started routing ports back onto themselves and other weirdness (eg when eth1 was connected to the ONT then I couldn't connect to the 'tik from my PC)

Anyhow, didn't have the time to do troubleshooting so just upgraded to RoS 7.7 hoping it would solve the issue - well whaddaya know, it did.

Under RoS 6 I had a nifty 'sniffer' that used the now deprecated 'accounting' function to provide a real-time view graphical dashboard of the internet traffic being of the various devices on the network - this meant that I could quickly identify any culprits potentially saturating the line.

Any of y'all got something similar going on RoS 7?

You need to use kid control.

I used to use traffic flow and capture using nfdump. Nedi could then display the nfdump files. But you would need to aggressively prune the dump files.

I now use packet capture and an OEM portal for this called illuminate. You need a switch mirror port and an x86 appliance. Not something the common tik user would pay for but useful for a business where each device's usage is aggregated via app and destination. The destination is categorised and disseminated

The reason I mention this is that netflow is resource intensive and commercial software pricing is ridiculous making it non-viable.

Thanks. It's moot at the moment 'cos I'm returning the 'tik for testing.

Fortunately I had a preconfigured D-Link DWR-956M to use in the meantime.

The other day I had to get this TP-Link M7200 as a backup to my broken fibre line, which won't be fixed for a couple of weeks.

Can this be hooked into my Microtik to provide Internet?

No, you can only connect devices to the Mikrotik with an ethernet cable. You need an LTE router that has LAN ports on it in order to connect it to the Mikrotik as a backup internet connection. There are some LTE modems that can be connected to a Mikrotik via USB, but as far as I know the M7200 is not one of them.
