PlayStation vs Xbox in South Africa - March 2023

I have no money now to actually vote with my wallet - but if I did I’d probably go PlayStation…

I got the PS4 over Xbox for the exclusives. I really enjoyed Uncharted series and The Last of Us.

I’ve heard Uncharted is gone for good :( But I’d be worried they launch another The Last of Us and I’m stuck on Xbox.
The price of console gaming has gotten to the point where you can afford to get the PS5 and buy every game that you want to play when it's released , you probably can afford to also get a Series S with Game Pass.

But that doesn’t help with Last of Us ?

Edit : Ah you mean have both?

I'm not sure life works like though .

Just because you can afford R20,000, doesn't mean you can afford R30,000.

Just because you paid R20K on gaming in a year does not mean you can really afford it anyway I'm not saying that they need to buy both consoles within the same year. The point with the price that full games are now, just getting a handful of the full AAA games (not just base games) , micro transaction and PS subscription and you"ll be paying close to R10K on gaming for a year, if not more.

But ... exclusives were my reasoning for buying one over the other

Series S is already starting to give developers a hard time. Incredible little machine though. But I went for the Series X rather. I have a lot of physical games I still play. I don't have Game Pass though

Playstation Good
Xbox Shyte
End
Bwana close thread
Thanks.
PlayStation = Good
Xbox = Good
PC = THE BEST

Though I must admit that my PC is now basically just a Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV and Eve Online machine.

Though I still regularly replay Icewind Dale 1&2 and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

Yeah developers bitching about doing more work, but it's good for the average consumer. I'm sure they'll start bitching about the Steam Deck next (if Valve ever manages to produce enough of them)

Xbox, not Milex-box, I know you like your Milexsoft Air Fry Simulator

TLoU has had four rehashings now, it wasn’t that good, please make them stop :(
They were good, but not Uncharted good.

PS f'ed up by killing off Killzone and Uncharted. I get that there's new IP, but they didn't have to kill off existing popular franchises. One new release per generation wouldn't have been overdoing it...

Best thing is these so called "free" games on the consoles:

When you go to download, you need to pay.
And when you want to keep playing these games, you need to pay again.

That was probably my favorite franchise

In fact, if I go through 'all' the games I played and bought on PlayStation over most it's life, it was probably like 8 - of which Uncharted was 4 or something

By killing Killzone? That series wasn't great in the first place.

I laugh every time people say : “ITS FREE ON PLAYSTATION PLUS” or “COMING FOR FREE TO GAME PASS”.

Stop paying for Game Pass and PlayStation Plus and then people will see how “free” those games are.

I must admit that during COVID Sony gave a bunch of games away for free. which was nice of them.

Uncharted, Resistance and God of War were like the ones I enjoyed

It wasn't, but it was the only decent exclusive FPS on PS...
There was Resistance which was a bit better :). But yeah the PS hasn't really had a Halo killer has it. Or Gears, though if you want to play TLoU 5 times :)

I was surprised to find out that Xbox is so far behind PlayStation globally in terms of marketshare. In South Africa I think it makes sense that Xbox is more popular because the Series S is half the price of a PS5. And with previous generations, Xbox also provided more budget options than PS (afaik - pretty new to consoles).

I've got a Series S and it's amazing what a R6000 shoebox can do. 15 years ago I was a full-on PC gamer, and my entire build cost R9000 for pretty high-end specs. Now a GPU costs more than a console. I still love keyboard and mouse but there's just no way I can afford such an expensive hobby any more.

I just wish Xbox would push to support games like CSGO, League, DOTA, etc. (with keyboard and mouse of course). They would crush the competition.
