Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi Box S [Android TV OS]

Hi guys, what app are you guys using to cast video/pics from your phone to the mi box?

Things like YouTube is easy to cast. But casting to watch videos i recorded on my phone or movies i downloaded?

People always say get a Mi box, it has built in chrome cast - but i struggle to get anything apart from YouTube to cast.

Yes. Since 2008.

SABC has been broadcasting digital for the last 15 years.

DVB-T2 works on any bunny ears aerial if your TV has a digital decoder... All channels HD too.

So I take it, that bunny ears, will work with the set top boxes that Gummint is doling out?

They'd work exactly the same I suspect. It's the same as analogue TV signals, they're just digital. Older TV's don't have digital decoders, so the box is just a digital receiver.

I have a the cheapest, nastiest Ellies bunny ears plugged into the back of my TV and get a bunch of digital TV channels - HD too.

Then it is easy to help those at work to get sorted, as far as reception goes, thanks.

Anyone have an issue with Mi Box not booting up?

Power is there as there is red LED illuminated on the Audi jack. item just is dead.

Tried booting up whilst holding select and back button but nothing (new batteries in remote)

Same thing happened to me and I tried the dual button thing, didnt work. would also really appreciate some advice on this

No reset button on my device unfortunately
Same...

Many of the videos refer to issues of being stuck on the black screen or logo screen.

The issue with mine is that it doesn't even get detected by the TV, its as if nothing is connected to the HDMI slot. I've also done all the HDMI related troubleshooting and still nothing works.

This is the original Mibox 3 so maybe its time I upgraded anyway.

Mi Box S or Tv Stick 4k?

The 4K stick seems to be better because of support for newer codecs (AV1 I think) used by Netflix and Youtube. Only issue is you lose the USB slot so you can't use ethernet anymore. But mine is working well on 5GHz wifi.

If you don't need the USB port, get the Xiaomi Mi 4K Streaming Stick, it performs better than the S, and the one we have in the lounge just keeps on working.

Edit:

You can add USB with an OTG cable if required.

Kind of a similar issue, a couple years ago already now. Didn't find a solution for it, unfortunately.
With mine, the light goes on and one can see by that light that it's responsive to every button press on the remote, but absolutely no signal to the TV.
Eliminated the obvious possible faults by trying different HDMI cables and also tried it on different TV's.

Hey. I read the last 5 pages or so and it seems like the MI stick 4k is the way to go. Am I right?

Does it have an ethernet port?

It's a "stick" ... where would you like them make that BIG hole?

An OTG cable will add usb which could add ethernet I suppose ... surely a YT video will have that solution for you. ;)
