Police in Makhado, Limpopo, have launched a massive manhunt for heavily armed suspects who attacked and shot at police members transporting six awaiting trial prisoners and managed to free them on Monday.

Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the suspects took the six prisoners and sped off in a grey Mercedes-Benz and a white Toyota bakkie.

Mojapelo said the incident happened on the Vivo road next to the first Schoemansdal turn-off outside Louis Trichardt.

He said the escaped prisoners are Forward Shumba, 26, Shingirai Nyandome, 32, Brilliant Sibanda, 26, Erick Sithole, 35, Moses Zambara, 32, and Alex Nkomo, 35.

Pathetic in what sense in this case?
In several senses:

1. That the country is so generally lawless due to police ineffectiveness, that this sort of thing can happen in the first place
2. That the police themselves carry so little respect and pose so little of a threat that people even consider attempting something like this
3. That the police are so ineffective that this was a successful operation
4. That the police's ability to track these people is so limited that they were able to get away afterwards

The people who attempted this should be dead at the site. Riddled with so much lead that they're barely recogniseable as human. An example to anyone considering a similar attempt in the future.

Those they were trying to rescue should have PTSD and brown patches on their trousers. Emotionally and mentally scarred by the overwhelming force they just witnessed.

Lekker hi-res shots of the prisoners, I am sure that people will be able to identify them.
