Best Robot Vacuum

If you search Nannyvac on takealot, a few of their products will show up that won't show up if you search for them on takalot directly as the products are out of stock. They all seem to have lots of good reviews. Support has been responsive as well, which is a good sign.
Ah ok

Yeah i see that now. Generally 4 and 5 stars accross the range

Will the robot vacuum be able to see if the lights switch off when Loadshedding happens

um no, its a SA company, you aren't finding spares on AliExpress. Happy to be corrected

There isn’t a single robot vacuum outside or Roomba on the market in SA that isn’t just a rebrand of a Chinese product sold under a different name elsewhere.

Which is exactly why you’ve never heard of it.

Even Roborock is just Xiaomi.

I wouldn’t buy anything other than Xiaomi in SA. Proper local distributor with good support etc and proper region support in their cloud services etc.

I am considering getting a robot vacuum. Any suggestions?

i have a xiaomi vacuum mop pro, all in all it has served me well for the past few years.
some annoyances

- we have a dining table with chairs that have legs smaller than the robot can fit through, if it has to pass through the room it gets stuck and just gives up and returns to its dock, so i have to move all the chairs to the side.
- the dust bin fills up quickly with pet fur so i'd buy one with docking station that has it's own bin and extracts from the vacuum if i were to buy another
- i've had the odd weekend where xiaomi's servers don't respond for a few hours so i can't load my map to tell it to vacuum specific rooms (this has only happened about 3x in the last 3 yrs)
- apart from the above it does take quite a while to load the rooms, i have to open and close a few times for it to load sometimes.
- the little lidar "hat" it has on top makes it just too tall to go under one of my coffee tables and it gets stuck.

my parents have the regular vacuum mop (non pro) which works well for them, small house - but from what i gather you can't divide up the area into rooms on that one.

I have the Nannyvac J-01. The app has some annoyances with bugs, like occasionally losing the map of my place it had created (but have it saved so just need to readd it), and occasionally the vaccum does weird things like struggling to find the charging location. BUT, the cleaning performance is really exceptional - I've basically not swept or mopped anything in the 6 weeks I've had it. And this was on occasions where I spilled rice on the floor, or it already cleaned a location and then I moved furniture away to clean areas not normally accessible by the robot. All in all, I recommend it highly, and from my understanding there is no robot vaccum with the tech it has, at anywhere close to its price in South Africa.

The best one is the one with easily available spares.
Intelligent (Lidar or Camera) navigation is a must.
Ive been using a Neato BotVac D3 for about 7-8 years (runs every day). If i had to buy again it would be a Xiaomi Vacuum mop pro (just got one for my dad) its great value for money. Or a Roborock S7/8 as the rising mop is appealing to me.

But for now, its Neato will keep running every day until it dies.

Where would one buy Roborock vacuums in SA? They seem not to sell here, same as Dreame. Importing seems prohibitively expensive.
The Nannyvac really seems to be the best value locally available, but there are no good reviews and the generic app is not great. There is one amateur review of Rubot J01 (same machine) on Youtube, but it's not making me jump the buy. The 360 S10 is similarly priced in international markets and most definitely a better buy, but does not seem available here.
Off topic, but why are these things so much more expensive here than in other markets?

Just buy Xiaomi, it’s the same thing as Roborock and available locally.

Bought the NannyVac J01 month ago. It's frustratingly not up to expectations for a R7k model. The drop sensor does not work even with a fake wall on app. After mapping it cleans in zigzag as if there's an item restricting it. It occasionally searches for the charging station. Below picture shows a half lounge and dining cleaned on a full charge as it get stuck cleaning in circles. Ps.. I have level floor tiles only and very very little furniture - performance should have been better. The suction power is great though.

That's why I am hesitant to get one. I can buy my domestic a proper Karcher vacuum for R7k that would last a lifetime. And she comes in 3 times a week and mops and vacuums the floors, 3 times a week. So why would I need a robovac?

The idea is cool and the tech I guess.

Still happy with our Xiaomi (roborock5). Had to replace the lidar once. Also took it apart twice to clean the filter on the exhaust port, but otherwise it's great.
