Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes killed in Durban nightclub shooting

American cops are intimidating and do not hesitate to use force. SA cops are much friendlier in comparison.

Maybe they are more organized than our cops but definitely not any less brutal/violent when they need to be.

Oh without a doubt, I would agree that the USA cops can be just as brutal/violent when they need to be... I think in instances like this event, our cops would potentially end up being more brutal/violent faster than the USA cops.

Even when they don't need to, like when the instructed you to crawl while raising your hands and you don't obey the instructions. I have found them to be a viciously brutal bunch who are looking for any opportunity to put some lead in you, they must be worse behind the scenes.

There have been a lot of criticisms of the brutality used by the USA Police force and all of those people cannot be wrong because there are so many of them. Unlike Mybb experts on the US Police force, they also live in the USA.

I think cops all around the world are needlessly brutal at times without a doubt.

The Americans are possibly more in our faces purely due to the availability of media around the incidents and the incredibly overt militarisation of their police forces.

Not always. In low crime societies, the police can be incredibly friendly and trusting. Obviously these are not USA and SA.

I guess all countries may have units that can be brutal. Like even in low crime societies, the more higher up cops will be capable of brutality as all societies, even low crime countries have to deal with extremely violent people every blue moon.

This must be lived experience... /s

I'd imagine they don't use threats/emotional/physical torture as the USA does (if they refuse to co-operate) but we don't know.
You would be surprised. I have seen a man get his teeth kicked out in the middle of the night while sleeping on the floor of a holding cell by two SAPS. He spent the weekend with his teeth in his pocket.

Reason? They were trying to get him to talk about where the drugs he apparently stashed are. They even took his late pregnancy wife into the holding cells next door.

Pigs!

Things like this must be commonplace in the Western Cape where poor people were being arrested.

Problem is, its IOL so its a 10% chance they got a legit scoop, and a 90% chance they've just made some shyte up as usual.
They got the clicks so they don't care. Nothing will come of it and if they were going to make a move on some suspects then its going to be harder.

Just curious.

Does anyone know what techniques the SA detectives/police use to get the people in these situations to speak up?

They use the methods you mentioned.

If it was a smaller crime, possibly but this will involve the more sophisticated cops and someone very high-profile may be behind the murder so if indeed they torture, it won't help the case.
They may not do the deed themselves but put you in a cell with known sadists.
