We buy Checkers Housebrand tinned tuna in brine, but it's nothing like how I remember tuna used to be.

Are there better brands out there, or has it all become bad?

We get the lower quality tuna. The higher quality caught tune is being exported.

I used to love the John West brand, and I could taste the difference. But sadly I haven't seen the brand for a few years now.

There is a huge difference between solid/chunks tuna cans and that cheap shyte shredded tuna. Worse is if you see how much more tuna you get with the solid/chunks cans, they work out cheaper than the shredded
That must be it. Seems the cheap stuff is shredded. Half the tin escapes when squeezing the brine out with the lid.

They all taste the same to me.

People who eat canned tuna have never tasted a freshly caught one, and those that have would never put their mouths to it.

The chunks taste better, but they’re also higher in protein. I only see it at Woolworths these days, and it seems to never go on sale anymore.

The last time I saw the John West brand was a couple of years back too.

Anybody know if Lucky Star is good?

What do you know, Sixty60 has chunks today. Gone so long I stopped looking.

Thanks, Woolies it is then. Tuna mayo just isn’t the same with shredded.

Tried Lucky Star a year or so ago and did not like it.

There's a lot more water in the things now, to the point that you have to that it's almost impossible to drain the damn thing without losing a substantial amount to the drain.

John West used to be a Heinz Brand. Heinz South Africa was a joint venture in South Africa between Heinz and Pioneer Foods. I think they no longer operate in South Africa.
