poweralert....

I take it you're not from Cape Town  The short answer is that yes, there are many Muslim DA supporters.

Let's just say that if I was in the DA's shoes I would do the same thing. People talk about Cape Town being a "white city", but it's coloured, and a lot of those coloured people are Muslim. So ya, do the decent thing and protect your votes (two birds with one stone) by making sure people can eat when they need to break their fast at the end of the day.
Once again what has the DA got to do with this? The DA doesn't run JHB

They don't. Cape Town has adapted its load shedding schedule to make sure there's no load shedding over the period where most Muslim people are breaking their fast for the day.
Oooh that makes sense :-). But that is a good thing to be honest

So wonder what the power alert for today is going to be, as the previous one only went to Wednesday. Probably looking at Stage 2 or stage 3

Been in Cape Town (far south) for almost half-a-century already but I don't really do demographics so wasn't sure about the ratios. Most coloured people I know (and I know a lot) come from Christian families but I realise many others are also of the Muslim faith especially those from the bo-kaap areas.

Some interesting stats from Wikipedia:

In the 2015 General Household Survey 82.3% of respondents self identified as Christian, 8% as Muslim, 3.8% as following a traditional African religion and 3.1% as "nothing in particular."[95]

Yet most places are halaal

Does not bother me, I don't eat pork.

McDonalds, KFC and a lot of other franchises are halaal
They might be but the Muslim population in SA is significant enough to warrant that additional expense. Thought you meant independent restaurants and such in Cape Town.

Nah, the population in SA is only about 8% as well

8% can still translate into a lot of sales on a national level. The additional expense of Halaal certification would probably be almost insignificant to that. Smaller food producers and restaurants usually forgo the certification and fees as it's not viable at smaller scale unless it's situated in a Muslim neighbourhood or specifically caters for that market.

It could be, but dammit I wanted bacon on my mcmuffin :-) now we are way off topic
