Nashville school shooting: Woman ‘armed with assault-style rifles’ kills six

You know I can post links to studies that show increased risk for folks in homes with guns and you also know I have personal reasons to believe feels should not supersede reals in this situation.

Thing is, this bring me back to the questions I always ask 2A folks in these threads, and it's the questions they never, ever answer.

Why are safe storage laws a bridge to far in the US? Do MyBB's gun owners leave their guns lying around their own homes, or do they store them safely because they aren't fscking idiots and they know there is an inherent danger that someone untrained could pick one up?
Gun owners aren't against safe storage they are against federally mandated laws. I'll bet if you go to the homes of most gun owners they will keep their non home defense firearms in a safe.
Or they practise common sense habits like keeping the ammunition and weapons separate.

It's typically homes that are not use to guns that have accidents.
And at the end of the day they have only themselves to lame for their personal tragedies.

Why is competency training too much to ask for in the US? Do MyBB's gun owners feel there is no value in firearm competency?
Bet you they don't, so then why argue for it in the US?
This is also a red herring. Gun owners in the US value having their firearms and they value using them at the range. In other words they automatically obtain proficiency and education in it. They also educate their children on such matters.
Remember the pearl clutching when photos showing a very young girl shooting with a rifle? THAT is competency AND familiarity in action.
It is also WHY they laugh at the many clueless Democrats pushing for legislation that those gun owners, being familiar with everything around their weapons, know are ludicrous.

A silly government license will add zero value.
It may make many of these mass shooters more proficient in their attacks though.

How does a waiting period end of the world? Yeah, MyBB's gun owners moan, but they follow the process and get the firearm eventually, and that's not Shakespearian tragedy. Not even close.
There are already waiting periods. It isn't a case of walking into a shop and walking out. Recall those article about journalist shocked that they could not easily obtain on like they assumed? Or the articles about how people flocking to buy weapons for the first time during the Summer of lover were shocked when it wasn't as easy as they believed?

Licensing, a register, red flags, and on and on and on... would the absence of all of these thing make local gun owners feel safer dropping their kids off at school?
Mostly because those measures don't work except to essentially place everyone on a governmental list. So besides some believing that this would leave it open for abuse by the Government it can also be seen as an invasion of privacy.

Red flags have seen many instances of abuse by people around those with firearms, think aggrieved spouses or neighbours etc.
This has resulted in those peoples legal firearms being taken away for extended periods, costing both time and money in legal battles. It has also resulted in deaths.

But at the end of the day you can't background check for something that isn't there. You can keep expanding the background, making it more time consuming and costly, but you still won't catch these outliers.
Take this shooter for instances.
Would see be on a mental health list because she was Trans?
Would a doctor need to add all their patients that see them for certain reasons to a detailed list for the government?
At the end of the day the only thing background checks can do is check if someone is/was in the prison system.

This is why I previously said it's a slow erosion of their rights. There are already innumerous laws pertaining to firearms. The days of "no ifs or buts" access have long since disappeared.
Regulation and legislation are antithesis to freedom so this is to be expected.

If you were allowed to have nuclear weapons, most people would keep them safely locked up and be responsible with them…………. However!!!!!!!!

Considering that this case was apparently suicide by cop, why the need to go into a school? Just go stand in front of a police station and shoot into the air. Mission complete.

Also the US, and much of the Western world, have a massive problem on their hands.

And note. Is this the result of social media on our youth in action?

There was also a NYT article about this looking at this problem, but the study listed there excluded actual psychiatric hospitals so the problem is likely worse.

To teach those violent little Christian kids a lesson not to use the wrong pronouns?

Oh, do places like Canada, and France, and Switzerland, and Austria, and Belgium, and, and, and not have folks with mental health issues?

Do they not have trans folks?

Do they not have side-doors?

Do they not have video games?

Do they not have movies?

Do they not have music?

Do they not have books?

In 2007, the Small Arms Survey found that Switzerland had the third-highest ratio of civilian firearms per 100 residents (46), outdone by only the US (89) and Yemen (55).

Switzerland has lots of guns. Yet they don't have mass shootings nor violence.
South Africa has all the gun control laws Switzerland does, yet has insane levels of gun violence.

Mostly due to previous military service. Not sure if it’s still a thing, but after completing service in the Swiss military, ex-soldiers were allowed to permanently keep their service firearms at home. I guess because if anyone ever decided to go to war with the Swiss, they’d have a fully trained and armed militia to call upon to defend the country.

And I’d wager the vast majority of SA’s gun violence is due to illegally owned firearms.

State police said hoax calls about active shooter threats and bomb threats were made to several schools in different counties in the state.

"All calls have had similar content. All calls are being thoroughly investigated and responded to by law enforcement. These calls have created lockdowns and/or evacuations of the schools with a large response from police and emergency services,"

This is just messed up.
