That’s EXACTLY what I said.
No it is not.
You cannot even read and understand your own posts
South Africa’s biggest forum. Discuss, discover, and connect with thousands of members.
That’s EXACTLY what I said.
I’m not really understanding?
In my case I’ve got it hardwired as that’s the global preferred way . But I should unplug and rather use WiFi because it’s ‘good enough’?
And we could really have stuck with WiFi N because it’s ‘good enough’? And therefore if you have the option to use Ethernet - you shouldn’t ?
Sometimes I think you’re just disagreeing with everything for the hell of it
Um. OkNo it is not.

For sure. And lucky for us, most businesses and system admin also prefer wired. Can you imagine Investec running on WiFI only because they didn’t want to run wires?
I’m not here to convince you of the preferred choice at all. Most people know what it is - or can Google.
You’re more than welcome to believe and use what you wantI obviously just think it’s pretty poor advice to tell people to rather use WiFi over the 1gb Ethernet port .
Well my question was more if there might be problems with wifi. Me and most people probably know the benefits of ethernet and i also think most people don't want to run cables through the house everywhere. Is that not the whole point of wifi? Plug and play. Me and my son played online shooter games during Covid, so we ran 2 ethernet cables to opposite sides of the house to our pc's to make sure everything is optimum. But I prefer not to run cables for everything, just if it's necessary, that was more the question. Will there ever potentially be a need for a ethernet port vs A15 over A12 Bionic chip.
No - they’re not.So you’ll find Investec is in fact all wireless…so jokes on you.
Most modern companies are all wireless.
Wired is simply not a thing any more; it just doesn’t make any sense. It’s expensive to implement and operate for very little benefit.
No - they’re not.
Why don’t you PM me who you think you know within Investec, we can sort it out and you can come back and report how ‘right’ you sure ?
If you already had Ethernet there by all means use it.
But there is no logical reason to specially lay Ethernet or buy a unit that has it for a streaming box.
It’s simply unnecessary.
But that logic every mobile phone and tablet should have Ethernet because it’s so absolutely necessary while consuming even more content in various ways.
It’s simply not a requirement.

Did Apple put out a note to say WiFi if the best or something?
I know you think you’re super smart, but you’re really just arguing for the sake of arguing.
You know nothing about his environment, his house, his needs - to simply say ‘go WiFi’ purely to argue a point is stupid.
Go look at the number of people that buy USB >>> Ethernet extenders because WiFi didn’t work for them?
Yes WiFi is great assuming coverage etc etc - but Ethernet is better assuming it’s nearby
Yes in my very first post I said that my other android boxes run on wifi without issues. So no wifi issues in my house, guess he missed it. It was more a question of is a ethernet port important enough for the chance of maybe running into some problems later on, to justify getting older model over new oneAnd here we are once again where Dolby stands alone on his own fighting numerous people and the entire internet just to be right.
It’s frankly quite amazing.
You are the one arguing for the sake of arguing mate, while numerous people with more exposure doing this as a day job have already told you that you are wrong.
Obviously the assumption is that WiFi is decent where he wants to put the box, he wouldn’t have asked the question otherwise.
Your statement about Apple is extra funny because you realise they’ve been all wireless for more than a decade, right? You think the fact they removed the Ethernet ports from all their devices isn’t that exact statement?

I’m sitting on the toilet with a 400mbit down and 500mbit up link to my phone while under “poor” signal, but sure let’s break out the Ethernet and run a cable underneath the door because that makes more sense.
Just use the money saved and add another mesh router then. The apple tv will actually stand about 4m from ont and router with no walls or anything. So there will be no problem now. I am more worried about maybe moving etc. If having a ethernet option is really worth it

1) It’s the Apple part of the forum. I’ll never be right here ? We both know that - but I don’t care too much
2) People with more exposure? You think? Because you know who I am, right? And you know what everyone else does, right?
And yes, you’ve dropped a few times about how rich & important you are *yawn* How you have managed 1000s of users and my personal favourite - how I am ‘wrong’ and/or ‘lying’ about something I’ve done (well) for 2 decades because, well, I don’t know. But that was the first time I thought ‘this guy doesn’t know as much as he claims online …’
3) And my assumption is that laying an Ethernet cable isn’t tough to do. Guess we both assume ? Or only you because it suits whatever you’re trying to push?
4) My statement about Apple is because you stand behind them, regardless of what they say or do. And because you’re so pro WiFi, I could only assume that Apple had something to do with it.
And it turns out I’m right …
