Incase anyone was interested in the differences, the price lower price is probably the biggest difference.

The base storage has increased - but they’ve removed the Ethernet port and it’s WiFi only. You’ll need to go 128GB to get the Ethernet port

A15 chip is added - but not necessarily a big difference anyway. More than likely easier and cheaper to get an A15 nowadays

Oddly - the new Apple TV 4K supports HDR10+ and the old version doesn’t. Doubt it’s a hardware limitation.

Don't see a reason to upgrade unless I get a new TV tbh. C1 + 4K 2021 model is a fine pairing

Yup.

I mean the A15 would be nice, but the older model is perfect.

And I don’t want to forgo the Ethernet port - so I’d need to jump to 128GB model (and never use beyond 10% capacity and negate the price advantage)

what is the use case for apple tv if you have a smart tv that already has the apple app or PlayStation 5 with apple app. Sorry i see too many people with it but I don't understand the benefit of buying this separate piece of hardware? feels like i am missing something obvious

Performance is the big one - Apple TV is pretty nippy compared to some options, but there are a few more :

Not every TV that is a 'smart TV' is created the same. Each brand has it's own OS and while some are pretty good, others are pretty shoddy\
Some brands may only support their platform for a year before abandoning it
Sometimes the same app (ie Disney+) behaves differently on each platform & has different features

I actually think that Apple TV on an Android system allows the steaming only, while on Apple TV you can rent movies as well
Disney+ on some platforms offer different resolutions and different sound options, even though the content is the same

The main reason for apple tv is airplay support you wouldn't be able to wirelessly mirror a mac/iPhone otherwise, also a media box has better performance and storage than most TVs, and it's easier to upgrade a media box than a tv every year or 2. All TV app developers, bar Netflix have crappy developers, so that's why one buys a google tv/apple tv.

Do the newer ATV's have remote you can play games with like the first HD model?
 
Love my ATV 2021 + LG C1

webOS is okay but I just prefer the unified experience
 
As an Android man, if the Ematic or Nova weren't as snappy as I would like then I would go Nvidia Shield Pro.
I have used an Apple TV 4K and I can attest to its responsiveness. It is a very good player. no doubt about that.

I've heard that - but I both Tizen and Disney+ were actually snappy for me .

I wanted Atmos sound though, instead of the 5.1 on the Samsung. WebOS was worse with stereo at a stage !
 
Btw - anyone found the Atmos sound on Disney+ is no longer there ?

usually depends on what tv you have if ifs under 20k it will have a bad cpu

I can't comment on others at all - but I can tell you I've been very impressed with everything .

It's a 2019 model and I reckon it was probably the most comprehensive streaming system when it came out.

I could you YouTube 4K60 (which Apple at the time couldn't) - but I also have Apple TV/Aple Music and Google Movies on a single platform. My Netflix and a fewo other apps were outputting Dolby Atmos too. It was (and is) fast ... and 3 years later I'm still getting updates. Plus I can AirPlay etc

I've just checked again and I think I was getting confused with Android TV which was 5.1 (sorry was trying a number of platforms at the same time)

I put together this list back when it launched - unsure what (if anything) has changed ... barring ATV Dolby Atmos
