Eskom just ruined your weekend

Eskom will only slightly reduce load-shedding stages in the coming weekend, with stage 6 continuing to remain in effect for most of the period.

In a statement on Friday afternoon, the utility said its power station breakdowns amounted to 17,093MW of generating capacity, while capacity out of service for planned maintenance was 6,392MW.

When do the winter units traditionally come back into operation as they do planned maintenance (6392MW) in summer.

Is that even the case? Or have they been in crisis mode? We've been load-shedding pretty much non-stop since September so I'd be highly surprised if the normal regular required maintenance was done.

Considering summer maintenance was almost twice that, also don't let planned full you into thinking it's maintenance.
So how it works is something breaks unexpectedly (unplanned) you set up a plan to fix it, it becomes planned, hence the 18k unplanned is now 17k and the 5k planned is now 6

Dudes, there's been consistent loadshedding for how long now? Eskom announcing further loadshedding this weekend is normal, not an exception. It doesn't warrant multiple articles or threads on it. My word.

the chewing gum and chicken wire needs to be used to hold the Generators together comrade,
Comrade, lets put a Tender for 100 million rand in Bubble gum and buy it from the spaza shop on the way home.

You know you joke about that.

I work (sort of) in the public sector. I've sat on tender committees (as a technical evaluator of bidders' submissions).

All the public procurement rules make it just about impossible to buy anything. I can't imagine how they get it right to award tenders irregularly.

Ruin my weekend lol, try again, guess who'll be even more affected that my leafy suburb where we can afford gas & geneRuyters?

its simple, those "approved" vendors are cousin's and buddies of the people putting in the tender documents,
they negotiate a rate on whatsapp and send a submission that gets approved and hey presto a New BMW IdiotMobile pops out for everybody.

everybody wins!
SA loses and we sit in the dark because of their incompetence.

Why don't they just pick a stage, and run with it until thanos returns and stop boring us?

Everyone has been suggesting that for a good long while now, but Eskom prefers to keep us guessing (which ultimately tells you they have sweet fsck all idea what they're actually doing)
Yup it makes planning a lot easier, though generally these 11 hour lower stages don't really do anything either

Okay, but when do winter units traditionally come back?

I swear this is their drafted solution for the generation shortfall:

Friday Stage 6
Saturday Stage 5
Sunday Stage 4
Monday Stage 3
Tuesday Stage 2
Wednesday Stage 1
Thursday Stage 0

Only when there are long weekends...

Otherwise its this

Friday Stage 6
Saturday Stage 5
Sunday Stage 4
Monday Stage 6
Tuesday - We'll figure that out on Tuesday morning.
