No man, this 4 week break is taking its toll.

I have now binge watched Full Swing on Netflix and my wife asked me WTF I was doing watching PGA golf last night at 11pm! Before that I had watched the MotoGP.

Desperate times....

"...What do we know about Formula 1’s return to South Africa?
Changing latitude and flying to South Africa, GrandPrix.com reveals: “Local sources have stated that, given the failure of private investors to negotiate for 2023, the Pretoria government has decided to start the negotiations in person, already paying 50 million, out of a total cost that could increase to 250 million.”

The only obstacle appears to be the homologation of the circuit: “It seems that the safety of the last corner is the last issue. It will require some work to allow the FIA to homologate the track.”"

Every time the rumour comes up I start hoping again.

Seems like Toby from Porsche doesn't want to fit the bill for the circuit upgrades to get to Grade 1. They already spent a fortune on the track so they don't want to do more, and obviously private investors wouldn't give Kyalami free money to make the track better.

Hopefully they can do something but after being there for the 9 Hour I can see that the circuit definitely needs some work to handle F1 cars. Some of those barriers are really close, they would need more gravel and some serious tecpro which isn't cheap.

Haha.

I ran out of room (so to speak) and found myself watching IndyCar. Guess who I spotted at the McLaren pit wall? Zak Brown. It was nice to also Grosjean and Ericsson. Both finished p2 and p3, respectively.

The lure of f1 will supercede any small upgrades to the last corner. That fking sausage kerb has to go

The sausage kerb is easy to remove, that's the 2nd last corner.

It's the 25m runoff in the final corner with cars entering at over 250kmh. No more room to extend as it's on an embankment with a road underneath. For comparison, Hungary first corner is also on the lean side but 10m extra runoff.

We already know it was scuppered by greed.

For context monaco has no room for run off. They can come to kyalami or not or just f off to Las Vegas

I'm aware the crocodiles and sausage bbq is the 2nd last corner having raced there a few times

Nope they just have a deal to provide support. Officially it’s RBPT.
Nope. They supply the engines.

"Though Honda officially withdrew from F1 at the end of the 2021 season, Red Bull has continued to use its engines under the banner of its new Red Bull Powertrains organisation, with Honda effectively now a contractor supplying them."

Yep, that article is pretty unambiguous:
"Dr. Helmut Marko, Motorsport Advisor, Oracle Red Bull Racing: “We thank Honda for their positive response to working together. We are excited to continue our partnership in F1 until the end of 2025 with the PU supplied by Honda"

Not sure how else it can be interpreted. Providing support doesn't preclude supplying the engine.
