Our work generator has given up the ghost and it seems to be impossible to find a supplier in our local area to call out to have it fixed.
It's a Lister 20kVA diesel generator and, apparently, the issue could possibly be due to a faulty armature.

Does anyone have any suggestions of companies to contact in the Western Cape who would be able to assist? They will have to be willing to travel. The companies we did manage to find were either unwilling to travel to the site or could not assist due to massive workloads.

Any suggestions [of suppliers] would be welcome.

Replace that piece of crap with two 18.5 horsepower petrol generators?

20kVA = 16kW

And so, 18.5 horsepower (13.8 kW) times two will almost double your productivity.

And you could sell your leftover diesel at a profit, perhaps. Who knows?

i presume its 3 phase ?contact your local co-op and see if they have a mechanic ,otherwise second hand units are around 50k .thats a beast of a machine .

Sadly not my decision to make.

Correction: Any suggestions of suppliers welcome. :P

I think so. The co-op couldn't assist aside from saying it could possibly be the armature going as it no longer provides the correct Amperage. (I know next to nothing about this stuff).

if the engine is still good ,an alternator can be rewound ,or replaced .look for a motor rewinder and ask them ,you may have to remove the alternator but get an electrician out first it could be the voltage regulators .those are brilliant machines and run at a low rev so its probably a 1500 rev per min unit .very few 3 phase units will compete with it these days from a price perspective .sparky needs to do a 3 phase load test and voltage test .

Will pass that info along. A retired electrical engineer looked at it and identified to armature as the issue. I don't know if that's accurate or not.

thats probably a 4 pole alternator.you may have lost a winding .you need to get the voltages on paper then phone an armature winder ,that alternator will run between 380v and 415 volt per phase .if one is lower its a problem .if you test it you must also get around 230volt to common between phases ask the engineer to supply voltages if he can
