MTN status on eSIM, VoLTE (iPhone) and WifiCalling

I am on Telkom LTE using an iPhone 13, I connected the phone to the 2.4Ghz band on my Huawei B618 router, did the trick where one puts the phone on airplane mode then switching the WiFi on. Once airplane mode was switched off the phone displayed MTN SA-WiFi. This did not work when connected to the 5Ghz band on the router.
Hmmm… interesting… will try it as well…

Enabling WiFi calling on my S22 does nothing, but enabling it on my wife's S10 works fine (which is my old phone, where WiFi calling did not work for me; it also worked for her on her old P30 lite).
We are both on MTN, and use Afrihost for our fibre.
Phone MTN, pray you get someone competent on the line (not like this response from MTN Business below, no less), and ask them to provision your SIM for Wi-Fi Calling. Does VoLTE work on your S22?

Sorry, didn't see your reply until today.

I just checked, I don't even have the option to turn VoLTE on...

Now to find someone at MTN who knows it is something on their side. Fun

Just to complicate things for you.
I have a dual Sim s23 and I don't have the volte options under that menu either, but volte works for both mtn and vodacom.

It's automatic, if your phone's Network Mode is set to include 5G/4G as displayed in your screenshot.

Here is how you can check whether the sim card or sim cards have been provisioned for "LTE" calling. (VoLTE)

Both our phones show LTE in that menu, but only hers shows the VoLTE icon in the status bar.

Seems to work for me on RSAweb, but it comes and goes.
I checked when I woke up this morning and it was showing the usual MTN carrier name.

After a few hours at home, it's now showing WiFi calling.
Didn't change anything.

For those following, prepaid *and contract esim now available on Vodacom, suspect MTN to follow soon...

Will follow up with my MTN admin contact on this...

Been running Vodacom and MTN eSIM on contract lines for a few months now.
