Microsoft hikes Game Pass prices in South Africa by as much as 109%

Wazzup? Some people still trying to gloss over the fact that PS5 exclusives crushed the Xbox...again?

PS - it really is flogging a dead horse, and even I can barely muster the enthusiasm to participate. Competition is healthy, and while I enjoy my chosen tribe being victorious, I do still want there to be competition. So hopefully Xbox will continue sparring for more generations to come.

So Microsoft are backtracking on price increases? I see local pc is back down to R139?

Glad to see it! I unsubbed and started working on my Steam backlog as it wasn't worth keeping up the sub at R249 a month. Would sign up again at R139 though but not immediately, unless there is something I specifically want to play.

I guess the bean counters at MS finally noticed the line going down instead of up, right after the hike to $30.

Now let's hope they dont make Premium worse.

Yeah I also misread, assuming the R139 was pc pass but it's for essentials. R209 is cheaper but still ridiculous when comparing it to other countries where it includes the cloud gaming for same price.

So R209 and they are removing the major draw which is Call of Duty. I enjoyed game pass because I enjoy the social aspect of playing the current COD with friends but not really keen on buying the game outright. For Black ops 6 I paid 120 a month which I felt was justified because I didn't know if the game would last a whole year before dieing down.

When gamepass went up from 120 a month to 250 or whatever it was I cancelled. Eventually got BO7 on steam even though the game sucks. Still cheaper than paying 250 for 10 or so months of COD until the next one comes along.

Like many others I have enough backlog on Steam already I don't need access to thousands of games via subscription.

Replaying the Metro series in anticipation of 2039

There is talk of a pass where you can choose your options coming. So pay for components like Cloud, COD etc. I think that would save the most for the old PCPass users because folks like I don't care about COD, Fortnite and we don't have the cloud gaming available ( I use GFNow anyway ). According to the articles, the COD and Fortnite added cost elements that bumped the price as well as cloud gaming.

Now whether the company is willing to shift to a model where folks aren't subsidizing components that others use, is another story. I still think the previous price was right ( R139 ) which was already a massive jump from the R79..

"Short term, Game Pass has become too expensive for players, so we need a better value equation," the message, obtained by The Verge, reads. "Long term, we will evolve Game Pass into a more flexible system, which will take time to test and learn around."

Corden claims that a "pick your own plan" formula for Game Pass is in the cards, where users would be able to decide what packages of content they want in their plan.

The idea, essentially, would mean players could remove Cloud Gaming from their plan to lower the price, and even remove content like the Fortnite Crew subscription service and add day-one Xbox games instead.
