The Tools and other D.I.Y bargains thread

Plan was simple go to Mica to get plug and some wire, all less than R100 and get back home.
Then I realized I need to buy lock which I forgot to buy many times before and wife was nagging me constantly.

Fatal mistake was to go where Ingco tools are....
As I mentioned I was looking at 115mm cordless grinder although I have two good ones so it was one more of want and not need.
Then yesterday I noticed Amazon has special for R799 so it got me thinking again about it.
Well Mica has 1000w for R699 so you know what happened.
Not sure if all Mica stores but Durbanville one has 5 more left.....

What do you want to cut with that, chase walls?

Yesterday I wanted to cut piece of steel for pump base and cordless one would make my life much easier.
So there are few cases now where it would help, also with speed control I could use it for my woodworking projects.
And yes there is project lined up where I will have to chase the wall.
As preparation I bought temu attachment so I can attach vacuum cleaner (some work in bathroom).

Surely the cordless one isn't 1000w?
It is a very good tool though, the speed control is very handy.

BTW those cheap SDS bit kits for like R400 in a case...are worse than terrible. You're basically buying a nice case to hold your replacement bits because the bits that come in the case will burn the first time you use them unless you're drilling soft material in which case you don't need the SDS anyway. Rather find decent quality bits that you need and buy them instead of the kit.

Honestly I do not know, this is from add below, but should work for most of the stuff that I need and will give it a bash.
If it fails, then I will pull Makita out.
There must be a mistake with that rating right because brushless tools are a lot more powerful for the same size tool but not to that degree. They have another 115mm Ingo that claims it’s 1200W, that's not far off one HP which is a massively powerful tool.

I have just received this and the nail gun seems to work well. However there are some very vague instructions about re-inflating the bladder. I had no idea this was a thing and it seems really badly documented.

Is this something that needs to be done regularly using a compressor? How often does this need to be done?

** Edited to add:

Ok, after searching the bowels of the internet, I found this gem of a video which actually describes the nailer pretty well. It seems that re-inflating the bladder is a once every few years thing.

I had the same WTF moment and like you say the instructions are worthless but eventually figured it out. I'm thinking of 3d printing and attaching some sort of storage for that valve though as I will have no idea where that is in 2 years time when I need it.

Does anyone know if I can buy the Ingco/Total pole chainsaw without having to buy the kit?

I'm wanting a whole lot more cordless tools and was thinking of going ingco for them but now that the 42Volt stuff is starting out I'm not so keen to buy the older 20V range and the 42V range is still tiny :( ..

Why would you need 42v compared to 20v?

20v is here to stay and is used by most tools because 42v is only for large extremely power hungry devices.

I would think the 42V is going to spread to most of their popular tools. Otherwise they will be expect8ng one to run two battery systems for one brand. Not unheard of of course...either way they have introduced issues. All their most popular tools now come in 42V with 42v battery kits...seems like the thin edge of a wedge to me

I wonder if they are trying separate themselves from the other brands with the same battery or if they want to make a hobby/pro option.

I'll stick to the 20v battery and just buy total tools if they drop the 20v range.

Just about all the major cordless tools brands have a high voltage range and low voltage range, it’s purely due to the demands of the tool in question - a small drill or grinder does not need a 40V battery but a jack hammer or weed eater/lawn mower definitely would benefit from 40v.
