I have an equal share of old tools and new tools. Several 1970's grinders, drills etc and I must confess, ill buy old second hand tools any day as apposed to new.

I have a 1992 / 3 Suzuki bandit GSFR 400 DIY project I'm trying to get rid of, does that count?
 
Problem today is cheap chinese or paki tools, and your German tools that are now so expensive.
 
Which brand of tools would you say is a good starting point for someone looking to buy some power tools for jobs around the house?
 
If you are working on a budget, Ryobi blue and Bosch green or Schultz from checkers... if you can and want to spend more money, Bosch blue or ingco.. metabo is the next one up and from there you are spending too much money for what will be just home use..

Topdogtoolshop have some good deals sometimes, if you are in the can and want to spend money range..

After looking at the various battery powered options I've decided to go with the 18V black and decker series. They're obviously not as good as Makita, DeWalt or Stanley but are also quite a lot cheaper. I figure they'll more than suffice for my bits and pieces DIY use. Also, eBucks had a deal on the Multievo starter kit.

Goedkoop koop is duurkoop.

You dont have to buy top of the line, if you are looking at hand tools keep an eye on Mastercraft specials at Builders.

I bought a cordless B and D drill probably 4 or 5 years ago at an absolute steal.. 500 bucks for a 18v if I recall.. it has outlasted a Bosch green cordless I bought a year later as well as a Ryobi blue I bought last year.. the battery is still 100% and lasts absolute ages..

I've got a Schults 18V cordless. Works like a charm. Obvious not for heavy duty jobs. Same with the Bandsander. More often used tools i buy Bosch/Ryobi. I'll have a look at Builders, still need more and more and more :)
 
Which brand of screwdrivers also for use around the house?

I have great tools, hand tools as well as power tools for jobs around the house etc, merely asking as it will be valuable information for someone that's looking to buy some tools.

I have a bosch blue hammer drill with sds bits and that thing gets pulled into any surface when using it, its and awesome tool.

Then I also have some Gedore screwdrivers I got from my dad which have shown no signs of wear after 6 years.

One thing my dad taught me is to look after your tools. He will sit with his tools and clean them with a rag after use and if you used it and didn't clean it you can be sure to get your own tools, he will not allow you to use it again.
