Since Showmax is closing at the end of the month, they are "inviting" customers to sign up to DStv Compact for R99 per month for 12 months where most Showmax series will be on.

I haven't received such an invite. I suspect it's because I added Showmax to my Vodacom account to pay, and not my credit card.

Does anyone know how to get hooked up with the R99 DStv deal?

Thanks

In my view communication regarding the migration process has been poor. I used prepaid vouchers before but switched to a card payment on their site last month. My subscription was due to expire yesterday on the 25th of April but I am still able to view content on the 26th. Despite having a bank card loaded on their site, they have not submitted a payment request to the bank.

Their website states the following which suggests that you may only receive the offer email once the subscription period expires. Having said that, I have not received such an email either. Perhaps they are giving people free access to the service for a few days.
"When your current Showmax subscription expires, you will be able to subscribe to DStv Compact, DStv Compact Plus or DStv Stream Premium to continue watching Showmax Originals and more"

The website also states the following which sounds like eligibility criteria for the 12 month offer:
"Showmax customers who have never had DStv or DStv Stream previously, or Showmax customers who had DStv or DStv Stream in the past but have not used the service in six months or longer, will receive a limited-time offer to access Showmax Originals and more on DStv Stream. Customers who prefer not to move to DStv Stream will be able to request a refund for any remaining Showmax subscription period. "

I found a link on their Facebook page for starting a DSTV 'trial', whether this is the same as in the email that they mentioned is an open question.

If you read the following article that Jan wrote, it suggests that the trial period would last until the end of May 2026 and only thereafter would you have to sign up for the R99 deal.

If I do not receive an email from them by 1 May I will try to sign up with that link if it still exists.

Perhaps someone else who received the email link can comment.

I guess that's the end of Showmax for me. I'm not signing up to DSTV.

How does compact content compare to showmax content ?

Showmax had a lot of old content, sounded like only real new stuff was local and the now-woke HBO, seems some saw it as similar to modern Netflix.

Compact does better, but expensive after year 1 ;

Then you cancel after year 1 and, if you want, switch to whatever it best at the time. Chances are pretty good DSTV/MultiChoice/Canal+ will have significantly different offerings by this time next year.
