Steve Biko road drag racing turns deadly

If we can always have pot holes, we can always have speed bumps.
Its the South African way. Sometimes life gives you speedbumps and sometime it gives you potholes.
I know what you meant. It was a joke. We have so many speedbumps.
I know 😉

I'm old enough to get excited about having new speedbumps on the road.
Now those dickehads who fly past me as I try and and pull out of my driveway, have to scrape the underside of their car before they learn to slow down.

The Honda isn't blameless.
Yes, should have kept going straight instead of over-reacting. If anything, he should have veered right in the opposite direction of the white cars travel. In general, if you have to tbone a car, aim for the back, less mass there.

Are you really saying that the person who was crossing the street at a distance from oncoming traffic that anybody sane would think is way beyond safe in a 60kmh zone is to blame for the crash with the street racer barrelling down a busy road at what seems to be more than double the allowed speed limit? Check the video, you can see the kwid hesitating, not knowing if he should accelerate to get out of the way or brake because the boy racers mean machine seemingly lacks ABS and is skidding for what looks like 50m already uncontrollably into the left hand lane.

"White car just sees headlights. There is no way to tell how far away they are" by that rational nobody should ever cross a road at night as long as they see headlights in either direction no matter how far?
If you were driving the white car and you came to the stop street (and I assume they came to a full stop and didn't just roll through like saffers do) and looked right, then left then right again (then left again (always look twice)), would you have proceeded?

Good news, one less wannabe racer skadonk off the streets.

Your parents must be so proud of you.

A young man has lost his life; and his family are suffering. It’s hardly good news.

By his own stupidity and possibly caused the lose of life of others. Sometimes Darwin awards make sense.

I Might have, I don't know - same way I might switch lanes on the highway because the 200m behind me were clear and I do not account for the fact that someone is coming along at 200km/h covering the distance I checked in lot quicker time than I what could anticipate.

But I think you are missing the point. Traffic laws are made for a reason, for instance, you are not supposed to go faster than 60 km/h in a residential area, because sometime people misjudge speeds or distances and then you should be able to brake or take evasive action without killing them.

People make mistakes, deciding to have a drag race in the middle of town is not unintentional or a "mistake" it's a wilful act that endangers yourself and the people you share the road with.

Robot at Ben Swart street to where collision happened 200m. Lets assume you get robot green and going 60km/h legal limit it would take 12 seconds to reach the spot the collision happened. Rough count it looks like the red car did it in 6-8(generous) seconds
6 seconds 120 km/h
8 seconds 90 km/h

However, “excessive speeding” remains a criminal matter. If you exceed the limit by more than 30km/h in an urban area (e.g., 91km/h in a 60 zone) or by more than 40km/h on a freeway (e.g., 161km/h in a 120 zone), you face a mandatory court appearance and potential arrest.
IMO the driver of the red car is criminally liable.

That said the crossing there is hair raising. You need to cross 4 lanes of traffic. You need to turn a bit into oncoming traffic to cross. Insanity.

Best is to turn right and then play frogger to the other side going with the traffic flow and take the next street. Takes longer but at least safer. Even longer solution is to go south on Johan Heyns the right into Ben Swart which has a robot. Still not really safe as the muppets race from further and disregard red lights.

I drove there a lot and always hated it was young and dumb, dangerous at best of times. After a while knew pretoria a bit better and avoided that area even if it took 10mins longer. Some of my gray hair was earned on that road.

But what I ment was that the race moves.
Certain roads are not allowed to have speed bumps because they are emergency services routes and vehicles must be able to drive through them at speed unimpeded. They are also used by trucks moving abnormal loads that can't ramp speed bumps.

If you can't see what caused this accident to happen and who was at fault that is some really faulty logic you are applying.
The very point of speed limits is to allow sufficient reaction time and distance to correct your path, slow down or stop in emergency situations.
The video perfectly illustrates why that is important.

Major route to/from hospitals. Steve Biko, Muelmed, Nedcare to name a few.
When there was a bit of enforcement they move to Soutpansberg Rd. but that one is not as convenient as its 2 lanes each direction.

both driver and passenger had no qualms in wilfully risking the lives of others for their own pleasure.
live by the sword . . . .

that his family is now suffering - that is dreadful.
but for the driver - - less than zero fukks given

White car just sees headlights. There is no way to tell how far away they are. Dont turn infront of headlights.

White car caused the crash.
headlight - 1 headlight

red car = unroadworthy
red car = bad driver - should have continued in a straight line.

so red car:
excessive speed
unroadworthy
bad driver
