I changed from a MTN data contract where I pay R538 in arrears to a new month-to-month. The anniversary date is the 12th of each month.

The new activation happened on the 25th of this month, thus I only had 13 days of usage on the old contract number. On the 3rd of next month, I have to pay the FULL amount of R538. I lose the unused data that I will have paid for, and the benefit of unused data rolling over.

Any company that has integrity and honesty as one of their core values would take the trouble to bill me only for the data I have used. So in my case, MTN have charged me for 30 days usage while only providing data for 13 days - they score 17 days.

They still have me as a customer via the new month-to-month arrangement. This is a company that asks for customers to complete surveys saying they want to improve their customer service! It leaves a rotten taste in my mouth.

I prefer to remain anonymous as I fear victimisation.

That first month, you're paying a month's subscription and the Pro rata from the activation date to the invoice date, there's no scoring done here on either side.

There is no pro-rata. You pay the old contract and your new month-to-month at the same time. The sneaky method that MTN use is while they can activate your new month-to-month (and contracts) immediately, they are quite unable to the same with a cancellation - they require a full 30 days to reverse. All the while pocketing your money. The MTN CEO's record bonus of R99 million rand is testimony to just how successful this is.

My old router is sitting in its box switched off, while the new router is beavering away. The payment for the old router has gone off - there is still another week to go on the silent boxed router.

There is plenty scoring being done, and it is not done by the customer!

I'll pm you, I just need a bit more clarification on this.
