So we cancelled a RAIN account. They said we need to bring back their router so i took it to the RAIN store in Paulshof.

The website only says the modem must be returned.

I take it back ,they said no the account holder is not you. I said, no the account holder is not here but they cancelled online and it said we must drop off the router back with them so i'm bringing it back for him.

no, only the account holder is allowed to drop off the modem to cancel their account.

So I said the account holder is not here so they said - they must do a letter. So we did a letter, emailed it to the account owner who signed it and sent it back to me while i was waiting. I show them the letter and his ID.

NO we can't accept it. We need the account holder to drop the modem off personally, even though he cancelled online, and he's signed a letter and you have his ID, we can't accept it and we can't cancel the account.

He had to drive back all the way from Pretoria to stand there and give them their stupid modem - they didn't even ask for his ID.

Then the useless staff scribble in some book in pencil "NOT OWNER WHO RETURNED IT" lol.

I told them their incompetence is matched only the level of terrible service.

RAIN is a bunch of absolute muppets lol, what a terrible company.

Wow "they didn't even ask for his ID." based on that alone I would have demanded someone with authority come down and review and sign off and prove the account holder is who he says he is and to prove its now returned and case is closed (purely to waste their time as well)

I wonder if they know there is a difference between a modem and a router, who even calls it that anymore?

I've heard from people cancelling with RAIN is next to impossible.. i can see why lol.

I made the mistake of signing up for their cloud gaming service that never materialized, if 200 lucky people got on the list it was a lot - long story short they felt the need to add me to their "spam" list you see, and to this day I cannot find anywhere on their site or on any of the mails to "opt out" - I think that is kinda lame to be honest

I just checked again - see for yourself what kind of a site doesn't even have an email address for a "contact us" type mailbox for queries? While hanging around on the site this popped up - and no way am I falling for that trick again Screenshot 2026-05-05 160214.jpg

How did they know you weren't the account holder, couldn't you have just claimed to be him considering they didn't even want an ID?

They asked for my ID, which didn't match the one on the system. One wouldn't think it matters since I was not collecting anything or opening an account - i was giving back the router as they asked.

What is stopping them from pestering you guys in 6 months when someone decides to want to do their job, and later claim the router was never returned and demand payment or replacement?

I find it truly amazing that people sign up for Rain without visiting this forum but are then very quick to complain here.

Caveat emptor

That's a cop-out, most people only become aware of other complaints and similar issues after they resort to pleading for help and advice and finding others in the same boat via a forum like this - a company must deliver what they promise, at least to the best of their ability. I for one am currently going through a bad buying experience with GeeWiz, was the onus on me to first spend weeks on a forum before making a purchase with a company that promises a good service?

No idea about GeeWiz, but you don't have to spend "hours" here to realise what Rain's "service" is like. Personally, I do a bit of research before I make a commitment.

yeah I get you but let's be honest it doesn't matter how "good" any company is on paper, they all offer the world, a company is only as good as it's last mistake - people also tend to blow things out of proportion sometimes and far fewer people share their good experiences versus the bad ones so you only tend to find negative stuff about companies. Life happens and things go wrong from time to time, no processes are perfect but it's how a company deals with an issue that makes them stand out for me. My experience with GeeWiz at the moment is unrelated to this and I won't try to derail the thread with it - but I will add that the one thing in common unfortunately is, every company is quick enough to take the money then virtually disappear when it comes to after sales service. If we, as consumers were to only pay after receiving what was promised, we would see a very different world.

I’ve been with Rain since they launched. Just upgraded each time.

Customer service in this country is a rumor. Some one bought a rain device and subscription while I was there and the person helping her barely looked up from the screen to talk. I mean at least pretend to be interested…

lol is the new parsley it goes with anything, compliments many a sentence - i wish my twin boys would get rid or "bro" or "bruh" for everything 😑

I am sure I have seen OP many times in the past praising RAIN when others complained about them
