Government considering 43 ‘new’ speed cameras in Gauteng – which cost R465 million a piece

What do the cameras do, run their own datacenter? Someone is going to coin it BIG time...

The cameras on the gantries? The tall ones that span over the highway? The ones so high that no one has ever managed to spray paint the lenses, even during the peak of the e-tolls?

Have you ever seen one of these gantries in real life?
 
This is a seriously misleading headline and article. Total capital cost of etoll project was R20 billion. This is included all the worldclass roads and bridges. (And this included the cost of 43 gantries which must have been a fraction of the total cost). The clickbait headline seems to imply that the new speedcameras will cost an additional R465 million each. You lose your credibility if you publish or refer to articles such as these.
 
Flock camera system? Oh sorry, they are a USA company and therefore no food in it for the comrades! That is why the system being considered is sooooo expensive!:mad:

Nowhere in the article does it refer to the camera costs.

Pathetic journalism in the article.

For interest sake, a new dual carraigeway highway in SA including a bridge or 2 cost approx R100m per km 10 years ago.

4 years ago it cost R100m per km just to rehabilitate a dual carraigeway main road.

What complete BS. There is no way each camera cost R465M! Not even the ANC would try to pull that one off.

Basically dividing the total cost by the number of gantries. It’s like dividing the cost of your car by four to get the “effective” cost of each tyre
