South Africans still ditching DStv

MultiChoice’s revenue continues to plummet as South Africans cut the cord and move from DStv to competing streaming services like Netflix and YouTube.

On 28 April 2026, Canal+, which acquired MultiChoice at the end of 2025, provided a trading update for the three months ended 31 March 2026.

Sky created NowTV, a package streaming service where people could subscribe to entertainment, movies, and/or sports. Multichoice half heartedly created showmax and were surprised when it failed, dismally.

One of my neighbors installed a dish the other day.
I was like WTAF?

I said hello to it again and I'm loving it. I had a pleasant evening watching the Betway Premiership, UEFA Champions League semifinal as well as baseball and rugby league on ESPN. It's perfect for the sports fan like me who doesn't care for rugby union or cricket.

I watch it at work ( Bar & Grill ), I do just as well, or better at home for a hell of a lot less. Even if I have not had a Pirate IPTV service in over a year.

Nah!!

Boet, they leaving because the service is ****, the content more than a few seasons behind, and way to expensive for what they offer. Not to mention that they are an arrogant bunch of self deluded twats.
Where is the content a few seasons behind? That hasn't been the case for many years now, in fact probably decades now.

there's a segment that loves it...and so they should...my mom is in that segment...its a rather large segment...they have no issues with it...

as long as im not getting support calls cos she cant stream im happier than a pig in ****...

"We'll do anything.. ANYTHING!! Just please.. Don't make us sell a good service.."

Yeah their customer support is non existent. I've written off my R400 odd Showmax refund. I'm sure I'll never see it.

If I could have subbed to Showmax and gotten Football on my TV, I would have taken a sub. On mobile, only, not a chance.

Edit: I know 25 or so other folks who felt the same. Lost opportunity.

Would have loved to have cricket with the Football, but regardless, if I and a lot of mates, could have had it on our TV's - we would have taken up a sub.

Give us a sports channel or package instead of using the sport to get clients choosing the full package
