Load reduction ends in these two provinces in South Africa

Eskom has reached a milestone, freeing over half a million of its customers across the country from load reduction.

The state power utility has embarked on a phased programme to completely eradicate load reduction, and it announced the latest milestone in its power system update on Friday, 8 May 2026.

Funny how we're "free" from loadshedding, but driving from Randburg to the other side of Roodepoort yesterday, I didn't pass a single area that wasn't completely out.

It's guess it's not loadshedding when you don't have a load to shed.

Does that mean they get 24 hours a day of free leccy instead of only 14 hours?

It’s the thought that counts

City power is not Eskom. We know CP is incompetent and broke probably worse then Eskom

So if load reduction ceases to exist that means those area are provided power for "free" via "certain means" without worry that the local infra will pop? R100 says JHB will never stop load reduction purely as a preventative to safe on supplies.

Data centers are scooping up alot of transformers etc

Won't be long before the ANC has killed off enough businesses that there will be more than enough electricity to go around.

The actual information:

On Saturday, Eskom chairman Mteto Nyati confirmed that load reduction had been eliminated in the Western and Northern Cape
