Catch with DStv's R99 deal for Showmax customers

Canal+ only sent former Showmax subscribers a link to sign up to its promotional DStv Stream Compact offer if they did not have an active DStv subscription in a "specific window."

The clarification comes after several former Showmax users complained that they never received a link via email to sign up for the offer.

Also, not to be mistaken by the "low" monthly fee for the compact plan. Just to get a nice surprise at checkout.

R299 on 12 month contract vs R399 month-to-month, yet, their website doesn't state this at all until the final checkout stage.

For a company that lost vast amounts of money on the streaming service, one would think that they would like to retain as many paying customers as possible. Even if you switched payment methods during the last month you were left behind.

Secondly, they have the unique advantage of owning a substantial amount of local language content which can be monetised via streaming. For example, no other streaming service has any meaningful Afrikaans content.

It seems like they are stuck in the old broadcast mindset of pushing selected content to users.
