I've been with Vuma Fibre Reach through Afrihost for years now, as it was the first fibre provider available in my area. I haven't really had any issues, and the technicians are usually quick to resolve them when they do come up.

However, I'm looking to cut back on some expenses and was planning on downgrading my package. While checking prices, I realised that Openserve Web Connect is much cheaper, even though both options are uncapped.

I'm currently on Vuma 40/10 for R537 p/m. The downgraded 20/10 package would be R417 p/m, while Openserve offers 20/10 for R367 p/m and 40/20 for R427 p/m.

I've heard that Openserve's FUP can get quite aggressive after 200 GB. Is it really that bad? I definitely use more than 200 GB, mostly for streaming videos, so upload speeds don't make much difference to me.

Any opinions from people who have used both? Would it make more sense to downgrade on Vuma or switch to Openserve?

Hi.

We do not apply throttling or shaphing on our fibre packages.

Openserve's T's and C's does include a 200gb FUP which Openserve (not the ISP) applies at their own discretion. Generally speaking they rarely/never apply throttling or FUP...it might be slightly different if there are many submarine cables down at the same time.
