First fully-electric Toyota launches in South Africa

Toyota launched its first fully electric vehicle (EV) in South Africa, the bZ4X, with a starting price of R1,182,800.

The electric SUV features a 73.1kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor on each axle, making it all-wheel drive, and the motors produce a combined output of 255kW and 438Nm.
 
I don't typically comment on looks because I don't really care, but jirre that thing is ugly.
The aggressive "kyk my groot piel" styling has gone way too far in modern vehicles.

Yeah, the EV ship has sailed, and Toyota are still on the docks trying catch a ride..

I love the brand as much as the next guy, but please be real guys
 
Ja, R1.2m for electric Toyota SUV.
Not sure who they're appealing this to? 2nd or 3rd car for very well to do families with 2.5 kids?
And at that price...BMW x1 Electric all the way....
Going to be a HARD sell for Toyota.
Also, where is the new Prius?
 
In my opinion there have always been 3 reasons to buy a Toyota.

1. Dependability - they use to be (some still are) solid and you could pretty much be sure of about 10 years hassle free driving if you bought one and took reasonable care of it.

2. Support - If something did go wrong you had a Toyota Dealership in every town and parts were easy to get.

3. Resell value: If you did want to get rid of it, mainly due to points 1 and 2 above, you could get a good trade in, because they were in demand.

Now my perception has always been that electric cars take away a lot of the complexity compared to ICE, so points 1 and 2 become less important because theoretically there is a lot less that could go wrong mechanically.

Add to this that the Chinese are coming in at 60%-70% of the price and resale also is not that important anymore.

I don't know where this Toyota selling at R1,182,800 is supposed to fit in then?

4. Ease of having it stolen from your driveway for a full insurance claim when it gets long in the tooth
