Rare cars on SA road - part 2

Not as far as I know, they used the 3.5L Rover V8, like most British cars of the day.
Okay cool thanks.

I went to double check and it seems like the 3.0 Triumph V8 was only ever fitted to the Triumph Stag, but the time the TR7 was launched triumph was already fully absorbed into the rover group.

Maiden sighting for me.

How dull, another soulless BMW. Imagine how boring a movie like the transporter or ronin will be today, when the luxubarge getaway cars the bad guys use sound like hoovers….or even if they made a remake of tomorrow never dies. Dull. No buzz in the testicular region. None of the fizz James May likes to talk about. That is just a tool to take you from A to B.

A 7 series without a honking great V8 (or preferably V12) is just so dull. I owned a tomorrow never dies 750il for a while a couple years ago. Stomping the throttle on that from time to time was such a stupidly fun thing to do. But I can’t see myself lusting over one of these in 25 years time.

i had a 740 - essentially for towing a fairly big speedboat - but ages & ages back, late 90s.
it was impressive - boat was a 22ft thing with a 250 motor on it - 2 filled fuel tanks, wake snake and all the toys in the boat, all on a double axle trailer.
invariably it would be me driving + 3 passengers.
that car performed effortlessly despite the load it was hauling about.
it even rescued a drowning land rover on the slipway !!

i was lucky, bought it used, but it had belonged to the service manager of umhlali bmw - so no expense spared on maintenance

Amazing man! That motor is a beauty. I had the same generation 540i with- basically as close as you could get to an M5 in South Africa in the 90s, since we didn’t get the M5 locally. I loved doing burnouts in that thing. I sold it 2 years back to rationalise my garage, but regret it almost every day. Load of power, excellent suspension, rack and pinion steering. Hell that was fun - and it was a real low milage car, thing it had 148k km when I sold it in 2024….bought it as a one owner car from an old farmer that literally just drove it to church on Sunday.

Classic beemer move. :)

Park right over a yellow line, and screw everyone else. Pedestrians, motorists, cyclists, bikers, commuters, cats, dogs and anyone else must just go fck themselves while I park here in the 'absolutely no parking ever' zone while I run my very important errant of getting a vape refill and chatting to my chinas.

Not against rules from what I understand, just not nice hog a charger that long :)

You suppose charge when visit the mall and leave again.

He drives an i7 and wife eqs450, so sometimes he hogs both chargers.

He hardly goes to mall he chargers he cars and leave and fetch them later.

I am sure he can afford charge he cars at home lol

E34? The M5 was available locally, actually all generations of m5 have been available in SA from the e28 generation.
If it was one of the e34 540i msport in manual then it is indeed a special car and was rarer than the m5.
