BMW SA launches E30-inspired 325iS and 333i Homage editions
BMW South Africa created some iconic performance cars in the latter part of the 20th century, with the E30 generation 333i and 325iS attaining cult status, along with the lesser-known 530 MLE and 745i - read more about that quartet here.
And now, the local division is paying tribute to its historic 3 Series creations with the modern 325i S Homage and 333i Homage, which were revealed to local media in Joburg on Thursday.
But wait a minute, the cars in the pictures are 2 Series Coupes - surely that can’t be right?
The 325i S Homage is indeed based on the BMW M340i Coupe, and the 333i Homage is actually a M2 Coupe, but BMW SA says these models were chosen as they are closer in size and spirit to the E30 3 Series models.
BMW will build just 33 examples of each, to be sold at auction with a reserve price of R1,435,000 for the 325iS Homage and R1,960,000 for the 333i Homage. Any amount fetched over and above these reserve prices will be donated to various charities. For what it's worth, the 325iS costs R220,000 more than its donor model, while the 333i carries a premium of R390,000.

The BMW Homage editions pay tribute to South African motoring legends, the BMW 325iS and BMW 333i. These two are icons in local petrolhead circles and are highly sought after by collectors.
The BMW 325iS Homage is based on the BMW M240i xDrive. As a reminder, it is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine which makes 285 kW and 500 Nm. Power goes to all four wheels via an automatic gearbox and BMW reckons a 0-100 kph in 4.3 seconds.
The second car is the BMW 333i Homage is based on the M2. It has a 3.0-litre turbocharged 6-cylinder petrol engine which makes a thundering 353 kW and 600 Nm. It is rear-wheel driven and is said to sprint to 100 kph in 4.0 seconds.
Both special editions remain mechanically stock, but feature heritage-inspired add ons. The BMW 325iS Homage has a double rear spoiler, heritage-style wheels, M Sport Pro package, M Sport seats, front splitter, armrest covered in original 2nd-gen Uberkaro tartan upholstery, black door handles, commemorative plaque and a colour palette of Mineral White, Sapphire Black, Skyscraper Grey and Fire Red.

A real pity we never got the G42 230i locally, yet we got the G20 330i, I believe both use the same B48 motor.
I was a huge fan of the F22 228i and when they upgraded that to 230i we also didn’t get that.

Jirre BMW know how to milk their customers.
Cant see this being a sure bet in terms of "investment" either
AND it's a 2 series.... NOT a 3 series!
Personally, I'd have an M2 everyday of the week for the same money.
