City of Cape Town’s fixed tariffs declared invalid and unlawful

well, i can with confidence speak for my hood.
the list of grievances is getting longer.

the small things like potholes or burst water mains, are of less concern than that of our elected officials ignoring us, the city pouring sewerage into the sea, city planners rubber stamping developers to run riot, the roads being turned into racetracks every weekend.
and of course regular protests like this on weekends

My mom used to stay in seapoint and she showed me this huge block going up which is going to block all the properties behind it seaviews.

I'll pay because I believe I'm getting adequate service in our area.

For example. All the main roads in our area are being resurfaced, this night-time project started on the 23rd of April and will continue until the 15th of June. That contract must be worth millions.

In our back street, a water main burst and someone didn't to fix the tar, a different department.
I put in a service request and the same week a team came around to fix the road.

Whatever you say about the COCT, it's possible to get service if you ask, and they're spending our money on worthwhile projects.

I believe my municipal account is loaded, but at least we can say that for every Rand paid in, more cents on that Rand go back to servicing the city and to capital projects.
I'll reserve my comment on the MyCityBus thing so long, it must be eating money, I just hope it works out for those that use public transport.

I'm sure the DA will retain Cape Town in November. I just hope Helen Zille can swing it up there in Johannesburg and get that 50% or more. Without an Executive Mayoral position (50%), it may not work, a coalition would potentially be run by the kingpins and polarise her mayoral power. I'm not so sure people up in Joburg understand their situation, they may not like Helen, but they need her and only her to right the ship.
Not true. Where I live in CT we pay huge rates bill, and we still as a community needed to instate our own CID (that we pay additionally for) so that basic services like cut verges, cared for parks and security can be at the level we needed.
In my opinion, the DA will not have the result they think in Gauteng - it's a different scale to CT. It's a massive area, and frankly it's not as bad as it's been made out to be (flame suit on).

20m from the building above, here is regent rd - the cranes in the air above all the construction provides a little context.
road is constantly obstructed (its the main route between camps bay / cbd.
pavements have been colonised by the construction companies.
everyone's homes and cars in the area are coated with dust on a daily basis.

the fact that mothers with prams and ppl in wheelchairs have to go into the street, is of very little - in fact no concern, to the DA led CoCT.
developers and their money is of much more importance to the City, than the safety and well being of it's citizens.

I rent in an upper class suburb, and I own a property in the city, which I rent out.

I agree that as a ratepayer, we do get good service and infrastructure in CPT, but...

I am sick and tired of the authoritarian BS that CoCT leads with, and the growing arrogance, not just of the CoCT, and it's ward councilors, but the DA as a whole.

The public response I got from our local ward councilor today has just cost her my vote, and several others, by the looks of things.

I have noticed a growing disdain with the CoCT, and the DA, in the last couple years, and I absolutely understand it.

For the first time in my voting life, I will not be voting DA later this year. Ask me how I feel about the national vote when the general elections roll around.

Having lived for 25 years in JHB, and 2 in KZN, I'm well aware of the difference that they do make when governing, however I think they need to be reminded who they work for, and what constituents really want. I'm very keen to see the local election results later this year.

I don't see them losing the WC, but a sizable dent may just be the wake-up call that they need to listen to what their constituents really want and feel.

I've voted for DP/DA since 1994. Next time round I'll vote FF+ for the first time ever and I dont even speak afrikaans. Its not a problem because I never listen to politicians speak anyway. :P

DA have proven themselves to be too leftwing globalist NWO leaning.

"You either die a hero or you live long enough to become the villain"

Remember in municipal elections, you get two votes. One for the ward and one for PR (proportional representation) ballot. If you are in a ward like mine, the ward will always be DA, so voting for an opposition party is a "wasted" vote on the ward ballot. On the PR ballot, however, every vote counts, so it'd be better to register your opposition there.
It is not a wasted vote. Vote FF+ on both.

All votes cast for a party on the PR ballot and for that party’s candidates on ward ballots are added together. Each party’s total is then divided by the quota to see how many seats they are entitled to.

many do not realise this is no longer a fringe sentiment, but instead become pervasive.
the high-handed authoritarian mentality is not sitting well with ppl.

you have summed up the prevailing mood of ppl on atlantic seaboard with 100% accuracy.

With over 90% of street lights out in many Pretoria neighbourhoods... it is not bad?
