So, yes the discount falls away and you get refunded the original amount you paid. Years ago they acutally credited your account the full amount and you could refund the cash part you paid and use the remaining credit to purchase but thats changed now.
With a recent return they automatically sent a coupon to me but it was only usable within 2 days. "Please note that the same terms and conditions will apply as on the initial coupon." I'm not sure if it was a mistake because the subject was Coupon Request with a reference number. Maybe someone else requested one...
