Green ID book printer could be switched off in 2026

Home Affairs deputy director-general Thulani Mavuso said the department could stop producing green ID books in 2026 and discard the machine that produces them.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Mavuso said the department could be ready to stop producing green ID books in the current calendar year due to its digital partnership with major banks.
