Google Chrome ends support for important ad blocker-related feature

Google recently released Chrome 149, which will be the last version of the popular web browser to support an important feature widely used by ad blocker extensions.

From Chrome 150, the browser will no longer allow the installation of extensions that rely on Manifest V2 (MV2), a standard that governed browser extensions for over a decade.

a feature called Blocking WebRequest, with Google citing privacy, security, and performance considerations.

So Google admits they want your Privacy, Security and performance to be worse.

who are they now? Microslop?

Maybe we should start calling them Gloople. So you can have Goop with your Slop.

The furthest I'll go with them ever is Chromium, nicely lean and so not able to be in your face. And Edge for streaming only, for similar reasons. Firefox for the win

There are still solutions like Adguard and Pi-Hole!
My concern is if this is not lowering the security?
So long as you are forced to render content in the browser without controls, Google has sole control over the security of it.

DNS only controls what is downloaded, not what is run locally.

Given that Googles business model is based on selling your usage data and advertising revenue, one can safely assume that the change is intentional, although of course they already know that a work around will be found. I don't use google for anything other than a Gmail account, and only because I have had that particular mail address for decades.

This.
If I use only my AdGuard DNS server at home the experience is better by sending the ad traffic in to a black hole, but the annoying ad placeholder code is still there, this would still irritate me.
