Rain and storm for Cpt pt 2

The SAEON Dwarsberg mountain catchment station reported 28mm up to midnight, with about the same early this morning. That is a good amount for a single cold-front, though only a fraction of the amount we had in the big storm in May (400mm+). The rain seems to have mostly stopped this morning, but lingering showers are possible. Temperatures are quite cold, though the wind has mostly subsided, and snow seems limited to the very highest peaks.

The next rain event on Sun 14th looks confusing, not a normal cold-front, nor a cutoff-low, but a mixture of unsettled weather.

The SAWS reports modest amounts of rain during the 24 hours to 8am on Fri 12th. Highest include Ceres 34mm, Kirstenbosch 33mm, Groote Schuur (Rondebosch) 24mm, Algeria (Cederberg) 18mm, Grabouw 18mm, Wolseley 17mm, Jonkershoek 16mm, Stellenbosch 16mm, etc. Areas away from the mountains received significantly less rain.

I just saw a moderately bright meteor entering the atmosphere NW of CT around 6:45pm. Not sure it deserves a thread, but posting here in case anyone else saw it. Definitely brighter than the planet Venus, not quite as bright as a streetlight.

bit too much cloud at moment. should see Venus and Jupiter low to NW (cloud allowing). There are two comets visible to west 1915-2015.

Brief but very heavy rain shower in Kenilworth at 1:45pm. This is a weird weather event, not really a cold-front, but with strong upper convection, due to a cold-core upper trough. Some of the developing clouds can be seen in the Milnerton webcam view around 1pm:

The synoptic outlook is very mixed, with heavy rain in places (mostly offshore).

7 day outlook showing lots of sun. Temps to hit mid 20's over the weekend. Apart from those torrential storms we had a month or so ago, I feel like it hasn't really rained much. Maybe it's still arriving in July and August.

Was definitely not in the mountains at Grabouw.

The South Easter wind was pretty strong yesterday, but has tapered off significantly as the South Atlantic High dominates. Frontal systems are passing far to the south of CT again, while dry and mild air circulates around the interior. One odd feature (not shown) will be a cutoff-low developing over southern Namibia on Fri 19th, likely to produce heavy rain over the desert.

Gonna be visiting CT for 2 weeks shortly (end June). Hoping for some nice weather while we are there but so far my long term forecast is not great. Cloud and rain for the first 5 days we are there. Still, forecasts that long out are very subject to change.

That South Easter going up Sir Lowry's Pass was hectic. My bakkie is already slow, then head on in the wind I was forced into 3rd gear to get up.
