SSD prices rising faster than memory prices in SA — Evetech and Wootware

Two prominent South African online PC hardware retailers say they have observed greater increases in solid-state drive (SSD) prices than in random access memory (RAM) in recent months.

The surge in adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) software has driven substantial demand for computing power and storage, especially among major tech firms.

Same principle surely? Memory chip shortage?
I don't see it changing in the future, the AI boner that tech companies have ain't going away anytime soon. At some point the analysis for AI will be 25% used on useful things like medical or business and 75% used on porn/virtual girlfriends and dumbass crap

There will be more Chinese factories popping up with them also wanting to get into the race. So it's not about the craziness going away but adapting to it. Currently SSDs are unaffordable and have gone back to being enthusiast tech like at their start. Luckily I bought mine from old stock on a discount just before the market got flooded with the increases. If it goes for some reason it's back to a HDD.

What I want to see is the efficiencies in LLMs skyrocket and these turkeys who invested in Nvidia and others sitting with the bag that they haven't made ROI on. Big tech going all FOMO at the expense of the planet and it's inhabitants.
