Hi everyone,

I’ve made a Android app called ElecLog ZA for tracking prepaid electricity purchases.

You can paste in your SMS, receipt text, PDF text, etc., and the app tries to pull out the amount, kWh, token info and other details automatically. You can also add purchases manually.

It’s not a payment or vending app — just a simple way to keep track of what you bought, how much you spent, and your usage over time. Everything is stored locally on your phone.

It’s still in early testing, so I’m looking for some fellow South African Android users to try it out and let me know what works, what’s confusing, and which SMS/vendor formats don’t parse properly.

To test:

Join the tester group:

Opt in here:

Then install from Play Store:

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Will test it out,

PS, if you want to sell prepaid electricity in your app, I have an API for you to use (it's free) full documentation here: https://simcloud.co.za/api/

I also wrote it in such a manner that it is easy for AI to ingest, if you want Claude or Codex to write it for you.

If anyone has old prepaid electricity purchase SMSes or receipt text, please DM me an anonymised example.

Old purchases are ideal because the tokens should already be used. Please still remove meter numbers, account/reference numbers, names, addresses, and phone numbers before sending.

I’m trying to improve ElecLog’s parser, I've added support for 3 different FNB formats, some example Absa and SBSA messages and the PDF text from EasyPay.

I've been looking for something like this, to see usage over time, etc. Even used Claude to design an Excel spreadsheet with graphs.

Can it scan in till slips from Pick 'n Pay and other retailers?

+1 on Excel, but I wanted moar - better insights, notifications, etc

At the moment it only accepts text you paste in. But taking a picture of a slip and using OCR in the app is on the feature list, will work on it!
