Makes sense, it's one or two days at most and the risk is high, better safe than sorry, you either wait an extra day or two, or risk waiting a lot longer when your product gets stolen/looted on route. While the protests have been peaceful so far, there is no guarantee that people will not be stoking violence on the day of the main protests.

More likely the N2 as its part of the logistics triangle : Durban, Jhb, Cape Town. M4 southcoast may be at risk with the local industry aound that highway but not North M4.
