Online applications for social grants launched by SASSA

Let's be totally honest. Did anyone actually think the site was gonna work? I mean, really?
Tender incoming for site overhaul due to "unexpected uptake"

How can we improve the SASSA SRD status checking process to make it more user-friendly, accessible, and efficient for all applicants?

Start kidnapping the family members of the persons in charge and hold them for ransom.

Each ten website usability feature improvements will result in one family member released.

Let's be totally honest.

I am.

Good evening all.

I was just wondering if you could do an investigation into the pathetic Online Services offered by Sassa. It is a total shambles.

Speaking from personal experience, I as well as a family member have had nothing but shocking communication and service experiences with the so-called online application process.

To cut a very long story short when I applied for a old age pension at 60 ( now turning 63) It took over a year of back and forth after which I was forced to restart the application and physically go the my nearest office. After approximately 2 and a bit months the issue was resolved and I was accepted.

Of cause I was only back paid from the time I was forced to apply at the Sassa Office. So over a year of income was simply lost 😡

The complete lack of timeously or ANY Communication from the Sassa’s online staff and management is an absolute joke.
Standard computer generated responses is all you get with little to no explanation on the progress of your application.

Now I’m assisting my son to get his Daughter a child support grant as he lost his partner over a year ago and needs the grant to survive. His currently working and jobs being scarce, he is unable to take time off from work to wait for days at the offices to physically put the application in.

This is why there’s an online application platform surly. To help people who are employed keep their jobs safe. 🤷‍♂️

We started this journey in March 2024 and to date and having to resubmit certain documents nothing has happened and we cannot get any response from them.

I’ve emailed them constantly but get computer generated responses that mean nothing.

Then we told it’s better to go into the offices as it will get done better 🤔😳.

The whole idea of the online application process is to minimise the amount of people going to the offices as well as stopping people having to take unnecessary time of work.
What’s the point of jeopardising your job and loosing an income because the can’t manage the online applications.

Doesn’t make any sense. This has in my experience been going on for at least 3 years in my experience , so I shudder to think how bad it’s been for others.

I’ve emailed Grant Enquiries, the Management and Ministry and received zero response. Completely unacceptable.

Their total lack of commitment and responsibility is shocking and needs to better made public.

If this is how Management deals with the public they need to be fired and Real Competent people put in place.

I really hope someone could look into the administration of the online platform as is an appalling state of affairs.

Below is one of the few responses I’ve received. Says it all mostly.

“”Good day,

We acknowledge your email. There is currently a backlog of online applications. Offices are actively devising a strategy to address this issue. Providing an estimated time frame for resolution is challenging at the moment. Staff are in the process of processing the online applications. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay.

Kind regards
ApheleleN””

This was approximately a month ago regarding my son’s application.

In my case 3 years ago, I received Nothing.
So in our case and 3 years later nothing has changed. Ludicrous. Shocking Management.

I have all the email correspondence's to them as regards my son’s application.

I’ve also attached to screenshots of my son’s application status. Everything has been resubmitted but still Zero response.

I really pity anyone trying to use this platform.

I hope that My Broadband can do an investigation into this Shamefully Run Department.

🙏🙏🙏🙏

Didn't know this still existed. I'd rather use the independent app but either way you're going to have to go in. If you can't because you're working you most probably don't qualify in any case or will get next to nothing.

Sorry to revive an old topic but the following ugly story does SASSA no credit. A long time friend of mine suffers from Lupus for which she received a monthly grant of R350.

In September her common-law husband of 15 years died after three days in Groote Schuur where she was his only visitor. The four year old will named the son as executor and sole beneficiary. Within days, the son removed the car and other stuff from the house. Round about that time the owner of the house told her to vacate the house she was living in and she ended up sleeping on a couch with her married daughter. The son gave her a small amount towatds her moving out and tolh her to get lost. Rather than cash, he insisted on an EFT to her bank account which triggered SASSA into terminating her grant.

The saddest part is that her husband had asked his son to add him to his medical aid and had been rebuffed each time. With prompt attention, in a private facility, the death may not have happened.

What's with all the gibberish?

1 - Is the long time friend a tranny or has a pronoun syndrome? You move from she/her to his/him.

2 - Why is the husband four years old?

3 - The grant was the SRD covid grant for unemployment, NOT for lupus.. It's the only grant that is triggered by any extra deposits into the account. So, it works as intended. Credit to SASSA. The termination is temporary for that month and payouts will auto resume as soon as there are no extra deposits into the account. Something's funny here with your story.
