I don't think the women's game in SA, is in a particularly healthy state.
Other than Kapp and Laura, who else would be picked or even considered for a World XI?
And it doesn't seem like there is anything of significance coming through the pipeline, in so much as a like for like replacement for Kapp and Ismail who are both on the brink of retirement.
We've battled to replace retiring players, Lizelle Lee, Mignon and Chetty. Dane and Ismail were lured out of retirement and/or considered for selection but have failed to really fire at the tourney.
Dercksen has shown glimpses of brilliance but is incapable of any sort of consistency, whether it be with ball or bat.
Anneke Bosch same story.
I'm sure there are a number of promising young players, but with the exception of Kayla and Meso, we're yet to see them...
I'm also wondering if Mashimbyi hasn't reached his sell-by date?
Goodish coach but perhaps time for new ideas and new energy...
Anyway...
I still love and support the ladies team.
They've been the source of much joy, excitement and entertainment over the years.
They seldom disappoint, if we being honest.
Once again, advice to myself and my fellow sports fans, TEMPER EXPECTATIONS....
