No new disc games on PlayStation from January 2028

your facts must be defending sony
Must be

Even though I haven't owned a console since the PS2

People are angry at the wrong thing

Fully understand the concerns
But put that energy behind demands for proper legislation and digital ownership rights

Getting angry because you can no longer hold a piece of plastic in your hand is pointless

I'll just say it again

If you don't like or agree with the direction the industry is going

Get a different hobby

It's not going backwards just for you
Lol I love that rhetoric, you don't like an aspect of something then leave. What a take.

Correct

What part of my statement is wrong?
It's not changing for you

So you can keep spending your money and bitch and moan about it or use your time and money on something else

It really is that simple

But this is not true, the blog literally mentions retailers - so you would (presumably) be able to buy your codes from anywhere that stocks it.

Just like I can buy GTA6 on Amazon or other shops, even though it's digital.

This will also get them over regulatory hurdles, so I don't see why they won't do it...I'd rather wait and see before getting angry about it
Thing is this what happened on PC years ago and no-one gave a **** to buy a code in a box so that whole thing died after a few years.

I never understand this stance. Don't complain about things, just accept it whether it's good or bad, just stfu. Is it so bad for people to be frustrated by something and vent about it?

You think it is a debate

And that is the problem
It's not

It's happening
Sony is not going to be the last either

Nintendo has already released some of their games digital only

Xbox will do the same

This is not an if. This is a when. The industry WILL change to digital only

If you really care, join movements like Don't kill Games. Lobby for better consumer digital rights

Your plastic WILL stop.
That is what you need to accept

If you can't accept that, then why even stay in the hobby?

But it's an option, isn't that the entire physical vs. digital argument as well?

If they only allow you to buy digital games on the PS store (like they do now) yes that is shitty and anticonsumer, I agree, but selling codes to retailers gives you an option, and it provides you with better deals over time, hell I can already save a full £2 on GTA6:

Of course and I totally agree with you, but the zombie no brains fake rage thereof is laughable vs the whole drama and hyperbole it is creating.

There is no end of gaming - its going to go on fine with or without you as it has been doing.
There is no end of ownership - because you already don't really own anything if you have been mentally awake for past few years.
If you are going to take up to 60% loss on a sale - no cto is going to sign off on that; would you?
<insert and so on and so forth>

In past few pages, probably from the start of this thread you can clearly see the pattern

a) You are either clearly showing your lacking in the capacity department
b) or you can somewhat follow basic factualness

It's same old bot droning over "facts" and facts - when you bring facts and not "facts" you are obviously not part of the brand hysteria. LOL.

ps. going back to pc over this is a complete mental failure tbh.

Correct
The danger is digital rights or the lack thereof

Wasting energy on your plastic is pointless

Thing is I'm not even trying to debate it stopping, it's happening, I'm just disappointed the last bastion for it is over. My original point in this thread was simply if that's the case the the one advantage a PlayStation console had for me over PC is gone, so I won't really be all that interested in a theoretical PS6, I'll just carry on with PC from then on.

There are diehard console players out there

Their choices are, stay with current gen and your current gen games, accept the future of consoles is digital only, or finally just drop the hobby

That's all I'm saying

It is still just a luxury and a hobby

Adapt or get out

I think the pricing of hardware is going to kill this hobby long before lack of physical media.

when the vast majority of people are fine with digital
Because it's not always about a spreadsheet.

User sentiment is a factor too, not saying it should determine their decisions but it sure as hell should factor into decisions as big as this one. The entire legacy of Playstation has been built on the disc, many of their loyal fans are people that have been there for decades and Sony announces the end of that in a small blog post.

They still make money off physical, they could continue supporting it even if it is an additional hassle for them.

They probably won't change their decision, and that's their call but it sure isn't wining them any love with their community.

Currently I am on my last PC
Already midspec and struggling to run the modern games

I can't afford and upgrade so, this is currently my limit until something big happens like I'm rich suddenly or prices drop

That's life
Might take of whittling. Should be pretty cheap

Yeah it sucks man and there is no end in sight, in fact it looks like it's going to continue getting worse this year and into next. My only saving grace is that I did all my purchases just before AI companies sucked up all the RAM.

Wow, I can't believe that people are still haaping on about this. It's still 2 or 3 years away and now there are rumors of boycotts and burning of consoles at the spires and lighting the tires.
