Blade Runner director signs on to make Dune reboot

had high hopes for that series and it started off well ... but the last season I had to dig deep to make it through without going SHIFT+DEL on the torrents

Not often I'm glad that a legend is dead, but in this case, yes - Asimov would have hurled at the butchery of his work

seeing this thread always reminds me of a woman about to go spread eagle or ready eatout.

Dune was never seen as an action-orientated piece of literature but rather a space opera and remeber Star Wars only came much later.

As for the 1984 movie, there some aspects of the movie that I like and some I don't but also David Lynch wasn't happy with the movie himself iirc he wanted his name removed from the credits at some point.
Much as i love the new movies, there is lots to like in the old ones.

Production design, casting and music are all really good. The movie is a mess but I still like a lot of it.

Because the movies are, IMHO, a pale comparison to the books.

The only adaptation that come close to the books is the circa 2000 miniseries.

The DV movies are good: visually spectacular, good acting, solid storyline, etc., but don't really convey the depths of FH's writings - but how could they? You would need weeks' worth of screen time to do justice to the Duneverse.

Again, IMHO, and in no way am I saying that I am right.
To be fair, even Herbert's original series goes off the rails pretty fast after book 3, and even leading into it. 1 is unmatched and a pillar way above any of the other books in the series.

Good news for you, Bradley Cooper and Warner Bros are making a movie about it.
That was 'announced' years ago and it hasn't' gone anywhere. Doubt it ever will, tbh.

Don't even blame them, because I think it would be extraordinarily hard to do well. Would require an immense budget and studio commitments to showrunners who know what they're doing across multiple seasons. Even then it's quite possible it just doesn't translate to screen properly anyway. Best not to even try that do it poorly, imo, and that's fine.

Simmons' passing away recently did make me want to give it a re-read, though.
