Warning about cheap extension cables being sold in South Africa

I use an extension from a generator outside to a multi plug in a building, no issues.

Also use one for an aircon that’s the only thing on the plug.

Zero issues for years and years to come. Because it’s concert-grade heavy thick copper core equipment and costs 12x what a cheap one on Amazon costs
 
Got me some of these. #1 best seller.
So far they great. Plugged my electric blanket in one and the last bit thats too long I wrap around my neck while sleeping, it also gets nice and warm for the winter.

The material isn't the issue, it's the rating. 10A cables for some reason can't handle a small heater that only draws 7A.

Thats my boy, he knows they only use the best quality aluminium core, plugs the kids heaters into them in their bedrooms, not a worry in the world.

Not true. China will make you anything to the spec you are willing to pay for. Where they got a bad name is in that everyone uses them for the cheap junk.

I fully agree with you,I've been wanting to say this for a long long time but never knew where to post it.
At the same time stop the wannabees like Kirsten and others from posting the crap.

Rural China is pretty much subsistence farmimg (with plenty farmland) and small markets for extra harvests. Old and/or retired folks. Many locals (young and old) work locally at businesses, have their own small shops, and plenty street sellers. Cost of living is very low.

Not sure where you'll find the many factories in rural China that supposedly exploit these old people. Your reports sound like propaganda.
 
Aluminium was used for house wiring in America in the 60s and 70s. That was stopped when it was seen that it was causing house fires. The main problem is not conductivity but rather cold flow. At a connection point pressure is placed on the conductor through the clamping action. The aluminium slowly deforms away from this clamping point. As a result the connection gets looser and the electrical resistance increases. This generates heat and a fire starts.

This happens over time. Even if one of these extensions is working fine at the moment it doesn't mean that it won't burn the house down in a year's time.
 
Are these cases of the extensions being misleading or are the specs on the cable correct and the public just ignores it and pumps 4kw through the thing.

Not just that, this propaganda is over 30 years old and not a thing about it has changed or been updated in all that time.
Been hearing it my entire life, believed it myself too for a long time, I'm sure we all did.... you'd think by now most would go "Hey, wait a minute, something about this narrative doesn't quite add up?!"... but nope...

We live in this weird f**ing reality in the West where everything China related is bad, bad quality, dangerous, out to get you if you let your guard down, yet, at the same time almost everything material we enjoy, good, bad, or mind blowing comes from them, has come from them, and will continue to come from them.... I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you look at inflation in the West over the past few decades, if it wasn't for China and their meteoric rise the average westerner's life would be unbearable today.

A few years from now, when China finally does match or even surpass what the Dutch does with ASML for instance, there will be no form of manufacturing and engineering on the planet that the Chinese won't be as good or better at, and we'll still have to see these horse**t comments and ignorance that comes with it, it's that ignorance that's digging our own hole.
 
Guys, I'm talking about recent enough human rights conditions in rural China, thanks to their political structures. Factories was just mentioned by someone else.
A bit of deeper research will confirm. The China success story is the distorted myth, communism always fails. You'll see
